Other neat portal ideas for longer term
- Longer term ideas to think about from other portals:
- Events section, like: "On this day" e.g., Biography, Religion, United States; "Selected anniversaries" e.g., War; "Calendar" at Holidays. Interesting idea of "Month selected anniversaries", at Oregon.
- Model intro with some rotating images, after Portal:Oregon, Portal:Indiana, Portal:Iceland/Intro and Portal:Philosophy of science/Intro.
- Revamp DYK sections w/ free-use images, model after Portal:Criminal justice and Portal:Oregon.
- Portal palettes at User:RichardF/Palettes/Portals. Comparable color schemes can be developed from the various hue lists at User:RichardF/Palettes. Also see Portal:Box-header.
- If there are a lot of categories, then categories section to 2 columns, like in Portal:Indiana.
- Also take some time to check out style/formatting at Portal:Indiana Cirt (talk)
Note to self
- Template:Citation
- Template:Harvnb
- Example: <ref name="REFNAME">{{Harvnb|LAST|YEAR|p=PAGENUMBER}}</ref>
See models at The General in His Labyrinth and Mario Vargas Llosa. Cirt (talk)

Dispatch
Cirt, Awadewit suggested that you might be interested in writing a Signpost Dispatch article on Featured portals (the only area of featured content we haven't covered). Sample previous articles are at {{FCDW}}. We've covered:
- Featured content overview
- Peer review
- Did you know
- Featured lists
- Good articles
- Featured sounds
- Featured topics
- Images
- TFA
- And Featured articles many times: Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2008-07-21/Dispatches, Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2008-04-07/Dispatches, Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2008-10-13/Dispatches
None of them start out looking like that: if an editor initially just chunks in some text, many others chip in to tweak it up to Signpost standards. For example, someone wrote this, which Karanacs, Royalbroil and I turned into this, so if you just chunk in some text as a start, others can help finish it off. Another example, I put in this outline, and Karanacs brought it up to this. Other editors have written almost complete and clean Dispatches without much need for other editing. If you're interested, please weigh in and coordinate at WT:FCDW In case you're interested, you could just begin sandboxing something at WP:FCDW/Portals and pop over to WT:FCDW to leave a note when you're ready for others to help out. Regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:26, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
- Will mull this over and most likely draft something up. Cirt (talk) 11:54, 18 November 2108 (UTC)
Thanks
Thanks for deleting my bio from Wikipedia; and I mean that sincerely. I agree that I am not in any way noteworthy enough to warrant my own wikipedia bio. Keep up the good work! Steve Dillard —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sladillard (talk • contribs)
List of Forgotten Realms characters
Hello.
I'm trying to build List of Forgotten Realms characters as a proper character list. Could you please restore the edit history of Manshoon for me, and redirect it to the list so that we can merge the content in? Thanks! :) BOZ (talk) 05:05, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hi. If you bring up the edit history, I'll try to source as much of it as I can while putting the info into the list article. I'm assuming that some sources are at least listed at the end of the article? I'm planning on digging into my books today, so I know I'll find something for this character. A number of other articles were restored in this manner recently, so that will keep me busy. :) BOZ (talk) 15:35, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks - I'm already looking at my sources right now as it is. :) BOZ (talk) 19:45, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
Cirt, any idea when you're going to get a chance to review this? Thanks, Jclemens (talk) 21:57, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
Help needed
Here's the question... The answer is (or what should I read to enlighten me)? Thanks in advance! --Krakatov (talk) 23:27, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
Please update DYK
The first hook in the currently displayed DYK is invalid because the article has been edited (corrected). (the hook saying "that Velika Planina is a high-altitude settlement in Slovenia having huts whose oval roofs (pictured) have wooden shingles that extend nearly to ground level to accommodate cattle?") It seems to be past time to update to the next DYK, according to Template talk:Did you know#Next update, so I would appreciate it if you would update it; I saw you listed in the Wikipedia:Did you know/Admins and that you seem to be online since you edited a few minutes ago. (I haven't checked whether the new DYKs have any errors, though!) Thanks! ☺Coppertwig(talk) 23:30, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. I don't know if you changed it or someone else did or what, but that hook is no longer on the main page. So it's fine now, as far as I know. ☺Coppertwig(talk) 23:41, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
An Arbitration case involving you has been opened, and is located here. Please add any evidence you may wish the Arbitrators to consider to the evidence sub-page, Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Scientology/Evidence. Please submit your evidence within one week, if possible. You may also contribute to the case on the workshop sub-page, Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Scientology/Workshop.

Valkyrie
Appreciate the addition of the reviews! The media will definitely have a field day with this film with all its quirks. I tweaked your citation templates a little bit, if you don't mind... I don't think the publisher=
field is necessary if what is in the work=
field can be wiki-linked and is fairly unchallenged. An example of when to use it would be something like: Schein, Louisa (October 4, 2008). "Hmong Actors Making History Part 2: Meet the Gran Torino Family". New American Media. Pacific News Service. Retrieved October 28, 2008. {{cite news}}
: Check date values in: |accessdate=
and |date=
(help) (found at Gran Torino). Let me know if I am off the mark or if it does not matter too much. —Erik (talk • contrib) 15:25, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
- I have not been involved in the date formatting changes, so my assumption was that ISO formatting (like 2008-12-11) could be left alone or rewritten. I prefer rewriting the dates because ISO formatting may not be clear to all readers (is 2008-06-05 June 5 or May 6? that sort of thing). Also, some articles will use different spelling approaches. For example, while Valkyrie is set in Germany, it is an American production. (I have not converted all the fields for that article; a little tedious to do a big one like that.) For a British production like Franklyn, however, I rewrote it differently. I am not sure if it is possible to rework these fields through template manipulation; I've been hoping to find a program that could translate ISO formatting into American date or British date formatting for a Wikipedia article. —Erik (talk • contrib) 18:50, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
DYK/GA Main Page proposal
Hi Cirt. I don't know if you're already aware of this, but you've been accused of 'inappropriate canvassing' here. Best, Olaf Davis | Talk 17:49, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Portal:Peru
I wanted to give you a heads up because of your important comments; I'm probably going to close Portal:Peru as a successful featured portal nomination in the next day or so. It still lacks a selected quote section, but I really think the editors have done a great job of addressing most of our comments and it is beyond the realm of required material under Wikipedia:Portal guidelines. It has also been over 16 weeks since it was nominated and I feel it is time to move on. I take full responsibility for the close. --Jh12 (talk) 19:26, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the quick response. If you have further concerns about the portal, feel free to bring them up. Best wishes, --Jh12 (talk) 20:05, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Rio (Band)
I see you have deleted this page. Why is that? Rio is the most important and popular band in Peru. I would like to discuss this issue with you, and if you need references to bring it back, I could provide. Please let me know. Armando 200.37.120.18 (talk) 19:35, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Deletion review for Rio (band)
An editor has asked for a deletion review of Rio (band). Since you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedy-deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Stifle (talk) 09:48, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
Triple Crown jewels
I have a request, could you look over my user page and tell me if I deserve a Tri-Crown? Thanks Tony the Marine (talk) 23:52, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Filipino TV vandal
I'm not familiar with ANI practices. How long do they get blocked? How large a range can be blocked? (First two IP numbers? Three numbers?) HkCaGu (talk) 07:49, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Or would protecting articles help? HkCaGu (talk) 07:50, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Re: Page protection
Noticed you protected Aliens versus Predator (video game). Would you mind doing the same for Aliens versus Predator 2 and Aliens versus Predator 2: Primal Hunt? They were part of the request as well. --IllaZilla (talk) 08:09, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
- Done. Cirt (talk) 08:14, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Re:Imperial Triple Crown jewels
Thanks very much- it's good to know someone is moderating the Triple Crown page, and keeping an eye on content creation/development, as opposed to noticeboard participation. J Milburn (talk) 23:33, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
- That goes for me also, Thank you very much for the honor. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:38, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

You made a notice of sockpuppets on this page, now it's a TFA. What does this mean? Lampman (talk) 01:09, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, but the FAC on this one seems legit though, right? I looked through the supporters and they didn't seem to be among the sockpuppets. Lampman (talk) 01:27, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
