Other neat portal ideas for longer term

  • Longer term ideas to think about from other portals:
  1. Events section, like: "On this day" e.g., Biography, Religion, United States; "Selected anniversaries" e.g., War; "Calendar" at Holidays. Interesting idea of "Month selected anniversaries", at Oregon.
  2. Model intro with some rotating images, after Portal:Oregon, Portal:Indiana, Portal:Iceland/Intro and Portal:Philosophy of science/Intro.
  3. Revamp DYK sections w/ free-use images, model after Portal:Criminal justice and Portal:Oregon.
  4. Portal palettes at User:RichardF/Palettes/Portals. Comparable color schemes can be developed from the various hue lists at User:RichardF/Palettes. Also see Portal:Box-header.
  5. If there are a lot of categories, then categories section to 2 columns, like in Portal:Indiana.
Also take some time to check out style/formatting at Portal:Indiana Cirt (talk)

Dispatch

Cirt, Awadewit suggested that you might be interested in writing a Signpost Dispatch article on Featured portals (the only area of featured content we haven't covered). Sample previous articles are at {{FCDW}}. We've covered:

None of them start out looking like that: if an editor initially just chunks in some text, many others chip in to tweak it up to Signpost standards. For example, someone wrote this, which Karanacs, Royalbroil and I turned into this, so if you just chunk in some text as a start, others can help finish it off. Another example, I put in this outline, and Karanacs brought it up to this. Other editors have written almost complete and clean Dispatches without much need for other editing. If you're interested, please weigh in and coordinate at WT:FCDW In case you're interested, you could just begin sandboxing something at WP:FCDW/Portals and pop over to WT:FCDW to leave a note when you're ready for others to help out. Regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:26, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Will mull this over and most likely draft something up. Cirt (talk) 11:54, 18 November 2108 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks for deleting my bio from Wikipedia; and I mean that sincerely. I agree that I am not in any way noteworthy enough to warrant my own wikipedia bio. Keep up the good work! Steve Dillard —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sladillard (talkcontribs)

Hi, thank you for reviewing the article. I did my best to have a better article and now we try to improve it on the basis of your ideas.--Seyyed(t-c) 01:55, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We're waiting for your review.--Seyyed(t-c) 03:41, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Imperial Triple Crown jewels

Thanks very much- it's good to know someone is moderating the Triple Crown page, and keeping an eye on content creation/development, as opposed to noticeboard participation. J Milburn (talk) 23:33, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox Software broken

Resolved

Your edit broke the hCalendar microformat in {{Infobox Software}} by removing classes. Please examine your edit, and repair it. Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 16:12, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think you mean Rjd0060 (talk · contribs) perhaps? My edit was simply this. Cirt (talk) 18:54, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh okay. Cirt (talk) 21:40, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You made a notice of sockpuppets on this page, now it's a TFA. What does this mean? Lampman (talk) 01:09, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, but the FAC on this one seems legit though, right? I looked through the supporters and they didn't seem to be among the sockpuppets. Lampman (talk) 01:27, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Australia TFA

Thanks for the kind words. It is still all a bit of a mystery how it got listed. With some warning I could have given it a bit of a spring clean before its day in the sun, but all's well ... Cheers, Mattinbgn\talk 02:03, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Content drive page?

I saw from here that WP:AUS is doing a GA 200 drive? Is there a unified page about this somewhere that lists all the Australia GAs, or is Category:GA-Class Australia articles accurate that there are 179 so far? Also, does the parent cat include all the GAs listed in those subcats? If that is the case, that is an attainable goal, actually. Cirt (talk) 21:44, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, there are 179 GAs all up and all the articles in teh subcats are also in teh main cats. It would be great if you can join us. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 04:05, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am going to collect evidence for the Scientology RFAR as an independent third party. I want to point out that I am not the wiki-police nor do I have any kind of official role.

On your statement you state that you want to "clear the air" and that you are trying to recall past attempts of dispute resolution.

To what extent are you involved with the Scientology dispute? Have you made any significant contribution to Scientology related topics? To what extent have you used admin tools?

-- Cat chi? 18:08, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much for looking into this as an independent third party, I welcome your input into the Arbitration Case and will get back to your above queries soon. Cirt (talk) 22:26, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again,
At Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Cirt I am looking at an implied discussion between Durova and Jossi which was removed for "security reasons". Jossi believes his conduct on that RFA is the main reason why Durova finds him unsuitable. Durova defered me to you about this so I am inclined to ask you the nature of that issue. I do not want to know your personal information, I would however like to know what type of info was posted (was it your address, name, phone number etc) to get a better idea on how bad it was. Another thing is was that disagreement even related to Scientology?
-- Cat chi? 07:51, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
I appreciate your attempt to investigate this, but this is the type of sensitive issue that I would like to leave to the primary parties. Cirt (talk) 21:56, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Who exactly should I ask about this? While I understand the sensitive nature of the issue, I want to figure out the source of the dispute between you, Jossi and Durova. I won't be mediating it but I need to understand the underlying problem so that I can provide arbcom a sane analysis of its effects today. -- Cat chi? 22:43, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
White Cat, I'm sure there are plenty of areas where you could help this arbitration case. And in many ways it's really helpful to have a neutral and uninvolved party look over the evidence. There's plenty of evidence on the page waiting to be parsed. Both Jossi and Cirt have expressed a reluctance to discuss this; they're not obligated to do so. DurovaCharge! 22:56, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Page protection

How/why did you get your userpage protected......and fully protected, at that? Daniel Christensen (talk) 01:45, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There were some instances of obscene vandalism in the past. Cirt (talk) 01:46, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I saw your post about a drive for Australian 'good articles', so thought I'd pester you to see what you thought of this one? It's pretty short, but then on first reading, I couldn't see any particular requirement for length in the criteria - particularly given that it kinda covers most bases, I hope. Hope you're good anyways :-) cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 03:52, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Previous discussions on WP:RS, WP:V and "personal sites"

I'm sure that there have been many more. You might want to re-examine the issue before performing further URL sweeps. (I do agree that many links and some sites should be pruned.) AndroidCat (talk) 04:10, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah thank you very much for those links, I will take some time to read over those discussions. If you know of any more previous discussions like those, please let me know. Cirt (talk) 04:15, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I know that there was a separate one over the issue of book permissions. (I should dump a copy of Wikipedia to local drives for easier searching.) AndroidCat (talk) 04:24, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Or, search this way :) Cirt (talk) 04:31, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I already have local copies of every article in FrontCite, a pile of documents, copies of various web sites (pro, anti, academic)... and a local search engine indexing them all. What's another terrabyte here and there? ;) AndroidCat (talk) 04:39, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help With Editing

Thx for the welcome message. Maybe you can help me. I joined with the good intentions of righting serious misinformation about a guitarist named Glenn Tipton. The page said he plays with classical influences but he does not. Apart from using my ears and 20 years of being a pro guitarists, I cited official published material to back up my words. However, my revisions keep being reversed to the FALSE information.

I have asked for the page to be protected to no avail and someone keeps reverting my edits because they are apparently guilty of WP:NPOV, WP:NOR, WP:CITE, WP:RS and WP:AWW. The comical thing is that I am NOT guilty of this! But leaving up the current, FALSE page *IS* being guilty of NOT, CITE & RS is guilty of such! —Preceding unsigned comment added by NemesisRogue (talkcontribs) 21:02, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And now I am told I am blocked from editing INACCURATE information, even when I provide references, and am treated like a troll. All this does is make me NOT want to be a part of Wikipedia and NOt want to get accurate facts out to the world.

NemesisRogue (talk) 21:05, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I will look into this a bit. Cirt (talk) 21:57, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
