Kalle Mattson is a Canadian indie rock band formed and based in Ottawa. The band received critical acclaim for their music videos "Thick As Thieves" and "Waterfalls".

History

Founder and lead vocalist Kalle Wainio moved from his hometown of Sault Ste. Marie to pursue a degree in Music from Carleton University. His bandmates (JF Beauchamp, Rory Lewis, and Kyle Woods) followed to also persue their own studies in music. Kalle Mattson was formed in 2009 in Ottawa.[1][2][3][4]

Music

The band's first full length album Whisper Bee was self-released in 2009.[5]

Their second album Anchors was released in 2010[6] and re-issued by, Winnipeg-based indie label, Parliament of Trees in 2012.

In critiqueing the video for "Waterfall", Alex Hudson of Exclaim! magazine stated that it serves "both as a fitting accompaniment to the introspective folk rock tune and a beautiful homage to the Bay Area".[7]

February 2013 The White Wires met The Mean Jeans a band from Portland, Oregon. The two bands became good friends and decided to record together. The first single was "Please Write" (a 45 split) released 2010 on Dirtnap Records. The band's second single from their colaboration "Born on a Saturday Night" (45 split) was a song of The Mean Jeans. The 45 rpm single was released 2 September 2010 on Germany's P. Trash Records to coincide with the band's European tour.


In August 2009, the band signed with Portland, Oregon's Dirtnap Records. The White Wires have also released music on Toronto's Ugly Pop Records. The band's self-titled album was made available on Apple's iTunes service 14 September 2009. Their second full length album WWII was released to Apple's iTunes service 30 November 2010. The first single from their 2010 album WWII was "Be True to Your School (’Til You Get Kicked Out)".
