The result of the discussion was: speedy rename WP:C2A. czar 19:26, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: name of the country misspelled Swam pl (talk) 18:37, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Swam pl, any objections to a speedy rename since this is a simple typo WP:C2A? czar 18:59, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Fine with me. In the future where should I put requests for speedy renames if I may ask here? Swam pl (talk) 19:04, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Swam pl, you can apply {{Cfr-speedy}} with the rationale but I recommend using WP:TWINKLE, which has an easy form under the "xfd" drop-down menu so you don't have to remember templates czar 19:23, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SMALLCAT. Category contains only two venues which have hosted cricket matches and is unlikely to grow in the near future. User:Namiba 17:18, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: no consensus. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 09:36, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Although I included this in the nomination Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2022_October_2#Architecture_by_country, I now think that was a mistake. This should revert to Ottoman architecture, like Category:Byzantine architecture and various period/region-based sub-cats of Category:Islamic architecture & Category:Arabic architecture. – Fayenatic London 19:47, 15 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.

  • Query "Note: this nomination depends on reading "Ottoman architecture" as a period or style rather than as a country." Is it established that Ottoman architecture is definitely a period or style? Laurel Lodged (talk) 11:19, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In that case Keep and create as a new category Category:Ottoman architecture which permits buildings that are outside the empire. Laurel Lodged (talk) 14:10, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support move (or another alternative). I think we've been overthinking the semantics of category names a little and we're trying to ascertain questions that scholars of these topics arem't necessarily concerned with. Ottoman architecture is both a stylistic and chronological designation. It's probably closer in concept to something like Category:Mughal architecture or perhaps Category:Ming dynasty architecture. There is clearly a distinct style that anyone familiar with the topic would recognize, and as Dogan Kuban (for example) explains in his long volume (e.g. p.679; book also cited throughout the main article), it is a style that is primarily found in the center of the empire and some of its most dependent provinces, while beyond these areas it is either absent or blended variably into local traditions. The issue is also complicated by a 600-year development, with uneven levels of change across this period. Frankly, this is how many non-Western architectural history topics are treated, so I'm nervous about trying to make each potential category fit into ideas that work primarily with Western art history. At any rate, my instinct is that it's weird to define it as a geographic category, for the reasons above and because it's a state that is long extinct and whose territories changed widely over 600 years, which makes it very unclear what scope this category would have.
So, mainly for practical purposes, I'd support changing it to Ottoman architecture, if we want to stick to the common name of the topic (and the corresponding main article). But Category:Architecture of the Ottoman period might also be equally workable. For the country-specific subcats, another option likewise would be to title them along the lines of "Category:Architecture in Greece during the Ottoman period", which avoids a stylistic statement that is variably applicable or non-applicable to different areas. I had argued this issue earlier during a specific recent proposed rename for the Algeria and Tunisia categories (proposal ended without consensus). PS: With regards to Category:Baroque architecture in the Ottoman Empire, if relevant, I've left this comment on its talk page about a necessary change and clarification for the future. R Prazeres (talk) 23:02, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
