Zeitschrift für Naturforschung C: A Journal of Biosciences (often abbreviated Z. Naturforsch. C) is a bimonthly peer-reviewed scientific journal. The journal accepts "contributions from all areas of animal and plant physiology, all aspects of biochemistry, neurobiology, virology and molecular genetics;"[1] historically, contributions were accepted in either German or English, but the current requirement is for manuscripts to be written in English. The Zeitschrift für Naturforschung (meaning Journal of Natural Sciences) was established in 1946 and the physical sciences papers (Part A) were separated from the other natural sciences (Part B) from 1947. A further seperation occurred in 1973 when this journal was spun-off from the chemical content.[2] According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2011 impact factor of 0.772.[3] The current editor-in-chief is N. Amrhein, Zürich.
History
The journal was established in 1946 as Zeitschrift für Naturforschung by the Max Planck Institute.[2] It was subdivided in 1947 into Part A, a journal of physical sciences, and Part B, a journal devoted to the chemical and biological sciences. These areas were separated in 1973, the chemical content remain in Part B and a new section, Part C, founded for the bioscience. Since its founding, the titles used for Part C have been:
