Moving pages

Hi Edgar. Someone has made these three pages 3',4'-methylenedioxy-α-pyrrolidinopropiophenone4'-methyl-α-pyrrolidinopropiophenone4'-methoxy-α-pyrrolidinopropiophenone which is fine as those compounds have references, are notable etc, but the first letter of the name should be capitalised right? But when I tried to move the page it came up with an error message saying

"3',4'-methylenedioxy-α-pyrrolidinopropiophenone" cannot be moved to "3',4'-Methylenedioxy-α-pyrrolidinopropiophenone", because the title "3',4'-Methylenedioxy-α-pyrrolidinopropiophenone" is on the title blacklist.

I'm not sure what makes a title blacklisted but I don't see why this move would be unsuitable in these cases?Meodipt (talk) 06:53, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Because of a particularly persistent page-move vandal who used titles containing non-standard characters, MediaWiki:Titleblacklist was created. In my opinion, it is too broad in what types of moves it prevents and this has presented problems with moving chemistry articles that have Greek letters in the title. Apparently only administrators can move such articles, so I have gone ahead and done so. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:39, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Merck

Why did you remove the information that I contributed to the Merck & Co page? If you took the time to research the material I posted then you would not have removed it. It's an insult to the personal experiences of many who have taken Proscar. If the Swedish FDA have changed their prescription information then it's appropriate for that to be listed on the page as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.49.238.57 (talk) 19:17, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

The link that you tried to add has been blacklisted due to spamming. Trying to get around the blacklist by inserting spaces into the middle of the link and then instructing the reader to remove them is highly inappropriate. Also, adding negative material that is sourced only to a blacklisted website is not a good idea - it doesn't meet Wikipedia's policies on verifiability and reliable sources. Finally, even if good sources for the content can be found, I don't think it is all that relevant to the article anyway. Information about the side effects of a medicine would be better suited to the article about the medicine rather about the medicine's manufacturer. -- Ed (Edgar181) 22:34, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Secks Records evil offspring?

Hello - you deleted Secks Records (thank you very much!) but that user had a bunch of pages in his user pages, most of which also look bogus. Is it only articles in main space that can be deleted or do users subpages ever get deleted too? I know it is ok to use subpages for works in progress so perhaps the rule is to wait until it is made into an article. I'm rather new and happy to be instructed - thanks! Alice (talk) 22:46, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia's policies on the use of user pages can be found at WP:USER. In general, a user is allowed to user subpages to create potential articles that may not (yet) be suitable for the "main namespace". At first glance, this user seems to be trying to create self-promotional (rather than bogus) material on Wikipedia. If you feel the material on his user pages is not appropriate, you can nominate the pages for deletion at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion and the community will decide whether it should be deleted or not. To me, it seems this is probably borderline. If a user is generally constructive in their contributions to Wikipedia, these kinds of pages will generally be kept. If a user is here only to promote self-interests, these kinds of pages will likely get deleted. It's probably a bit early to tell what type of user this person will turn out to be. -- Ed (Edgar181) 23:48, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Dipropylamine

In this case, I think the N refers to the fact that two propyl groups are bonded to the nitrogen, not that the propyl groups are straight-chain (even though they are). I got that particular alternative name from Oxford's MSDS. shoy (reactions) 19:55, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure I can explain why, but di-n-propylamine makes more sense to me than di-N-propylamine. (But neither appears as a synonym at that link.) Anyway, thanks for creating the article. -- Ed (Edgar181) 20:11, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
It's the title of the page. Thanks for the picture, I hadn't gotten around to making one yet. shoy (reactions) 00:02, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Enox Biopharma

Hi,

I'm adding my first page, I probably did something wrong. (sorry about that)

I'm trying to add a page about Enox Biopharma, Inc just like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cardinal_health

What was I doing wrong? —Preceding unsigned comment added by ItamarDavid (talkcontribs) 00:06, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

The text at Enox Biopharma was a word-for-word copy from www.enoxbiopharma.com. Wikipedia simply cannot accept such text (see WP:COPYVIO), and it is policy to immediately remove it. If you think Enox Biopharma meets Wikipedia's notability criteria for inclusion (see WP:CORP), please feel free to write an article about the company in your own words. -- Ed (Edgar181) 00:12, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for removing that. I'm a dumbass. I don't know what I was thinking. I ended up on Bella Vista High School earlier and I guess when I saw Bella Vista, I automatically thought high school football. I'll slow down and read more carefully. Thanks again, لennavecia 16:15, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

No problem. It's an easy mistake to make with an article that's in a vandalized state. -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:43, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Why did you delete the Emily Vaughn page?

My friend told me about that page, my name is Emily Vaughn and I think it was written by someone who is making threats against me. If i can provide proof that i am who i say i am and that i need the full article to actually make a charge against them will you send me a copy of it? Thank you, also i don't have an account so I'll have to just check your page from time to time. Thank you,

Emily Vaughn —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.191.204.68 (talk) 20:16, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

I deleted that page because it met criteria for speedy deletion outlined at WP:CSD#G10. I deleted it moments after it was created and only administrators have access to the deleted content. The user who created the page, User:Hotpants0996, has been warned and will be blocked from editing if the inappropriate behavior continues. At this point, I don't feel comfortable about giving out the content of such an article upon anonymous request. -- Ed (Edgar181) 20:38, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi Ed. The last two images in the article are both incorrect. Can you check if the one above (uploaded by the same user) is correct? Or do you know another user with a good knowledge in biochemistry, if you can't verify yourself? --Leyo 08:19, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

The image File:MechanismAPE1.JPG does appear to accurately reflect the overall mechanism of the enzyme reaction as it is depicted in the Nature report referenced in the article. However, it does contain several small errors. For example, in the bottom left structure Asp 283 is missing a negative charge, His 309 is missing an H on the nitrogen, and the "OH2" on the phosphate should be just "OH". -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:56, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
I marked the image on Commons with {{disputed chem}}. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:59, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Why Did You Delete The Article "Lego Rockband"?

That was my article and I worked hard on it. Please "undelete" it!!! Please, dude! You should know, I'm new to wikipedia. So my articles will be bad. BUT I WILL IMPROVE THEM. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.185.144.228 (talk) 14:34, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

I deleted it because it met speedy deletion criteria by not making any assertion of notability. However, I have copied the content to User:Wikimaster2323/sandbox (presumably you're User:Wikimaster2323). If you think the subject of the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion (see WP:N) you can work on the article to get it at least readable, then copy it to Lego Rockband or another appropriate title. -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:45, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

IP User:86.2.163.21

Hi, It seems that you have compelely disregarded the vandalism made by this IP user and just focused on the part that a user can delete the warning! Did you disregard these vandalisms 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, even if you had a comment, don't you agree that you should have given your commment about it? Don't you think deleting those warnings simply means that you are just see above edits helpful to Wikipedia? This will give this user the idea that laws here are too lousy that one can get away with vandalism very easily? I did not argue whether one can remove messages from talk page or not, I reported this user due to vandalism and now see what is your response! You even deleted all the warning. This user should have been blocked and the messages should not have been removed. I appreciate if you could explain your action toward my request and removing the warnings from this user's talk-page. Best --Parvazbato59 (talk) 20:48, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Hello, Edgar181. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The discussion is about the topic Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Asking_for_a_follow_up_on_an_administrator.27s_action_for_IP_block_please. Thank you. Toddst1 (talk) 23:11, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
Hi Edgar, Toddst1 was nice to remind me that I should tell you about referring this case to administrator's noticeboard. As I also mentioned there, I do not have anything against you, I am just not satisfied with your comment to my request. Kind regards--Parvazbato59 (talk) 23:28, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
It looks like all this happened just after I left the computer for the evening yesterday, and that it is resolved now. It's likely this could have been avoided if I had communicated the reasons for my actions better, rather than just using the edit summary. If you still have concerns, please let me know. -- Ed (Edgar181) 10:37, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Deleting page without any reason

Dear Edgar, I was away for a while, please let me know why did you delete the page about Vojislav Dragovic??? Everything that I wrote was correct, he is pro goalkeeper (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COGLv3H8YLI&feature=channel_page) , he also took part in free kick masters 2008 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgVnwlDQo44) , he has agency that works as the agent to profesionall athletes and coaches. you can google him, you will find many articles and photos of him...so please let me know why did you deleted this page, or shall you delete it one more time if i make it again? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bdoegai (talkcontribs) 22:48, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

The article Vojislav Dragovic was deleted by User:MBisanz as a result of the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Vojislav Dragovic. If you have questions about this deletion you can ask him. I deleted Vojislav dragovic (different capitalization) because it was a no longer needed redirect to an already deleted article. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:29, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

My page was deleted ?

Hello Ed,

I created a page as my first effort on Wikipedia - Confero - that I have just found out you have deleted. You have (correctly) noted that the content is similar to that on the dma.org.uk website. However, it is a desription of my Company that I wrote for the DMA website, so I have effectively re-used / modified my own created content to use here. Is that not allowable ?

If it is not allowable, can the page at least be accesible to me again so that I can modify it to show acceptable content. Do bear in mind that the 'Wikipedia' element of the content is 'unique' and I spent quite a bit of time working out how to put it together.

Please advise. Bikertov. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bikertov (talkcontribs) 15:52, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

It might be worth reading Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies), too. --Leyo 16:23, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
I deleted the article Confero because it was a duplicate of text found on a website that is marked as copyrighted. Wikipedia simply cannot accept such text (see WP:COPYVIO), and it is Wikipedia's policy to immediately remove it. The article probably shouldn't be recreated unless you think Confero meets Wikipedia's notability criteria for inclusion (guidelines are at the link above that Leyo has noted). If you would like a copy of the deleted content, you can email me through the "E-mail this user" link on the left, and I'll send it to you. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:56, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Regarding BCDMH

Greetings, Edgar:

I've been looking at the BCDMH article and I see that the article is internally inconsistent as to whether it's about 1-bromo-3-chloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin or 1-chloro-3-bromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin. If I can rely on this site I think the right answer is the 1-bromo-3-chloro- structure. However, it looks like your chemical structure diagram is 1-chloro-3-bromo-. So, (a) do you agree? and (b) if so, would you like to switch your diagram around or shall I? I probably would have gone ahead and done it by now, but I see your chemistry credentials are much higher than mine, so I thought I would make sure I'm not missing something first. :-) Andronicus (talk) 22:08, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

You're right. It looks like the structure is the wrong isomer. I'll fix it a little later today. Thanks for noticing the discrepancy and letting me know. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:07, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
Fixed now. -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:32, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Keyser Mangosteen's Article on Jack's Tours

Hello Edgar, You deleted my draft of an article on Jack's Tours citing self promotion as the reason. How is it possible that my page was deleted when Robert's Hawaii and Polynesian Adventures pages are still up? My article was based on Jack Miyashiro's life leading to a locally run transportation company with ties to the Big Island. I cited several sources for reference. It would appear that Wikipedia and it's editors are promoting specific companies when articles about other transportation companies, for example Robert's Hawaii, are still posted and supported. Please explain. Thank you, Keyser Mangosteen —Preceding unsigned comment added by Keyser.Mangosteen (talkcontribs) 23:25, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Your user page really should be used for information about you. That page came across as promotion of a business unrelated to Wikipedia, which is not permitted on user pages. I have restored the content of that page to User:Keyser.Mangosteen/sandbox where you can work on it. When it's ready, you can then move it to an appropriate title. You also might want to make sure the company meets Wikipedia's inclusion criteria outlined at WP:CORP. As for the articles on other Hawaiian tour companies, I'm not sure they meet Wikipedia's inclusion criteria, so they may end up being deleted at some point anyway. I hope this helps. -- Ed (Edgar181) 10:14, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for your advice. I will revise my work in the sandbox as well as review the company material. I appreciate the prompt response. Thank you, Keyser. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Keyser.Mangosteen (talkcontribs) 20:34, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Ethidium bromide article

I (38.112.100.65) am ashamed to admit it, but the ethidium bromide edit (obviously incorrect to anyone who has ever run a DNA gel) was made as part of a bet between a group of molecular biology graduate students, to see whether false information about a relatively specialist topic would be corrected in less than an hour. Tetracosane Geometrical Structure

Dear Edgar 181,

Could you please explain why the geometrical conformation of the shown tetracosane is bent, instead of being a straight chain alkane? What would be more precise way for description- solid state NMR shows that there's indeed energy difference between the methylene carbons in the middle. What is your reasoning for this?

Thank you —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ivs5982 (talkcontribs) 12:42, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

I have drawn File:Tetracosane structure.png in such a way that it will fit in the available space in the infobox (a linear depiction would simply be too wide). In the solid state, the bent conformation will probably be slightly higher in energy than an entirely linear conformation, but not by much, so I think it is a fair compromise to balance the need for a reasonable depiction in the confines of the infobox. In the gas phase, or in aqueous solution, some bent conformations may actually be lower in energy due to the possibility of increased van der Waals interations. Having said all that, it doesn't really matter because two-dimensional skeletal formulas are not really intended to depict ground-state conformational information anyway. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:07, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi Ed. I agree it is just a drawing, but in case anyone is interested in the conformational analysis of semi-long alkanes in the gas phase and in solution, this reference could be useful.[1] :) --Itub (talk) 13:30, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, Itub. Unfortunately, I don't have access to that journal. But from the abstract, the statement, "The smallest n-alkane with a hairpin geometry that is lower in energy than the all-trans conformer occurs for C22H46" suggests that the current image at tetracosane is a good representation of a low (or perhaps lowest) energy conformation. -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:51, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Hello.

Just wondering why the page on Stones Throw label artist James Pants was deleted.

Please advise.

Thank you!

The article was a word-for-word copy of text from www.inqmnd.ca. Wikipedia simply cannot accept such text (see WP:COPYVIO). If you think the subject meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability, you are free to write an article in your own words. -- Ed (Edgar181) 17:55, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Veritee and netquantum

DO NOT fight with me and block my address repeatedly at netquantum and stop to behave like a fachist! immediatel unblock the account ! or i will never again show up at wikipedia because of your immature behaviour the link i added on the veritee talk page is perfectly wikipedia legal. understoud this time.! if you dont agree on something you send me a message first! --89.194.198.80 (talk) 15:52, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Your behavior here has been entirely inappropriate. Evading the block by editing anonymously is not permitted so I have blocked the IP address too. If you persist in disruptive behavior (either editing anonymously while your registered account is blocked, or by continuing disruptive edits as User:Netquantum once the temporary block expires), you are likely to be blocked for a longer term. If you wish to contest the block on your registered account, you may do so by following the directions on your talk page. -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:02, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
this is what you say but please explain why! nothing happened and you are only abusing your admin tools. I tried to edit other articles with excellent comments but only your vision will prevail on wikipedia (in this case this encyclopedia is junk)! wikipedia is not a place for unilateral visions and behavior. other opinions are also to be considere. Other issues i would like to blank the dialogue for the Veritee article it is not appropriate and not necessary to index this stupid conversation on the Internet so please ad the blanked as a courtesy tag.(This page has been blanked as a courtesy.)--Netquantum (talk) 13:38, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
OK, I can give you a detailed explanation of why I think your behavior here is entirely inappropriate. One of the most important features of decision making on Wikipedia is that of consensus. Your actions have been consistently contrary to consensus. Your attempts at promoting Veritee have been repeatedly met with consensus that this content does not belong at Wikipedia as evidenced by the multiple AFDs (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Veritee, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Veritee 2, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Veritee ® Wellness). Yet you still persist in trying to include it. Your attempts to promote Patrick Buri have been repeatedly met with consensus that this content does not belong at Wikipedia as evidenced by the AFD (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Patrick Buri), the deletion log (Patrick Buri deletion log), and the history of Buri. Yet you have persisted in trying to include it. Your attempts to delete content related to Veritee's competitors have been repeatedly met with consensus that this content does belong at Wikipedia. Yet you persisted in your efforts in this regard. You have repeatedly violated Wikipedia's policies regarding revert warring, sock puppetry, personal attacks, advertising, disruptive behavior, and more. For this behavior, you have been blocked under the names of your various accounts and IPs by multiple administrators. At nearly every step of the way, you have been met with consensus that is opposite to your actions. Despite all this, you have the gall to insist that I'm the one acting unilaterally. I am very surprised that you have not yet realized that your self-promotion is simply not wanted here. Lastly, I'm not comfortable with the idea of blanking the most recent AFD for Veritee. You have abused both "courtesy blanking" and "right to vanish" in an attempt to hide from your prior bad behavior. This has enabled you to continue this bad behavior now. You have been allowed to deceive the Wikipedia community too much already, and I'd rather not take part in perpetuating that deception. You state above that you will never again show up at Wikipedia - I think the Wikipedia community will be better off if that is the case. And I think it would be better off for your state of mind as well. Please take this sincere advice: there are other, better places for you to promote Veritee and Patrck Buri and the sooner that you move on from Wikipedia to focus your efforts elsewhere, the better it will be for you and for us. -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:22, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
you are wrong i am not doing promotion, who cares, i am with wikipedia since the first day and having mutiple accounts is perfectly wikipedia legal. Patrick Buri, Veritee, Enviga, Hobermann, Tyrol Bruce Kovner, etc i made lots of edits and articles with the Netquantum name and other user id. I have no interest in Veritee or Patrick Buri or Hobermann or Enviga or Bruce Kovner I am just editing when i see something interesting. My name is Charlotte from London, i am a graduate a LSE and honestly believe that you are abusing your admin tools. I could very easely get the same tools with Netquantum or other User ID but dont have so much time and very busy i do edits time to times. I am planning a new article on Phillip Hildebrand chairman at the swiss national bank, missing at wikipedia!!! I am starting now. WIKIPEDIA IS A DEMOCRACY WHERE EVERYBODY CAN MAKE A CONTRIBUTION AND OTHER CAN MODERATE BUT SHOUL NOT ABUSE TOOLS. Please unbloc the page I would like to blank the dialogue, those comments are nonsence and we dont need those conversations to be indexed on the internet. --Netquantum (talk) 14:54, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

You Removed My URL

Edgar, you sent me this message; Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Prescription drug. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. -- Ed (Edgar181) 17:38, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

I wasnt spamming, and I know Wikipedia is nofollow. I added my link to Prescription Drug because when you search No Prescription Drugs your site is on page one. So I figure people come to you frequently, and I have valuable information about prescription drugs. My website informs consumers about the dangers of buying drugs online, why western union should never be used, and teaches people how to better research a website they are considering purchasing something from.

I am sorry if you deem placing relevant useful information on a page relevant to my website, however I completely disagree with you. I hope you will consider adding back the URL after looking at my website. I am not a spammer, most of my backlinks are from quality articles I wrote. I dont have a PR5 for no reason, and I am not looking to spam Wikipedia. Would you please reply to this, if only to clear the air. I use Wikipedia all the time, the last thing I need is to be banned from it. Id also appreciate why you deemed my link spam; I have a feeling it was due to the large amount of spam you probably receive. Maybe I got tossed into the same category.

Jared —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.82.79.188 (talk) 23:22, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

The link you added is pure advertising and is an unacceptable link according to Wikipedia's external link policy. The page you linked has "Buy Xanax, Valium, Cheap Phentermine, Ambien, Buy Ultram, Codeine" in a banner across the top and its followed by an ad that says "10% Off All Orders". The suggestion that this page is intended as anything but advertisement is just plain silly. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:16, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Artists Intel

Not much apparently. I am new to wikipedia and am learning about proper citations and article posting. I'm sorry if it did not include enough significance according to your arbitrary system. The article clearly is under construction considering you deleted it a few hours after it was posted. This is a non-profit community for artists not a "company" trying to make money. Thank you for helping the community grow by deleting an attempt to let others know about it. I don't think it contained any propaganda or was an eye sore to those who came across it. I would greatly appreciate it if you put the article back up and advised me on how to make it better. (in response to the deletion of Artists Intel page)

Actually, the decision whether or not to delete an article is not dependent on knowledge of art and music - it is simply the application of Wikipedia's guidelines. Wikipedia has inclusion guidelines that depend on notability (see WP:N for details). Articles about organizations (whether they are businesses, non-profits, or whatever) which do not make any assertions of notability are routinely deleted. If you think Artists Intel meets Wikipedia's guidelines for inclusion, I would be happy to provide you with a copy with the deleted text so that you can work on it some more. Also, you might want to take a look at Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines, which seem to apply here. -- Ed (Edgar181) 17:22, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Edgar,

Thank you for the input. What can we do to make this article available? Perhaps you can tell me how we can word it better to make it sound more neutral. Do we have to wait till Artists Intel gains more popularity? People often ask what Artists Intel is and what better place to look for the answer than Wikipedia? It is in Wikipedia's best interest to have the most (and most accurate) articles in the world so how is are we conflicting in interest. There are no links to the website, just a short explanation to what it is. I look forward to your response and guidance on how to resolve this. Thanks again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ArtistsIntel (talkcontribs) 19:39, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

The guidelines say that a topic should have "significant coverage in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject" in order to be included in Wikipedia. If you can find such sources and write an article based on what they say, then the article will probably be kept. If there aren't such sources, then maybe you do have to wait until Artists Intel gains more popularity as you say. -- Ed (Edgar181) 01:02, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

re: 86.121.193.xxx spam/vandalism

Ed, thanks for your note on my page regarding my recent AIV report. The problem has continued; see these 3 July user contributions from yet another IP address. In some cases, the IP is just adding the www.plwha.org address (although with bad format); in others, the IP is deleting information from the article and inserting the address. In the past, the vandal has evaded blacklists by changing the address (.net, .com) or the format (spaces, spelling out, etc.). Keepcalmandcarryon (talk) 15:56, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

I have made a couple of range blocks that cover the recently used IPs. With the user changing IPs so much, I don't know how effective this will be. This might be a situation that the abuse filter can help with. Would you be willing to make a request there, since you're probably more familiar with the history and m.o. of this user? If not, I'll give it a try. -- Ed (Edgar181) 22:09, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, Ed. I've noticed only brief activity from one more IP, and nothing since your message above. I'll let you know or go to AF if the problem persists. Keepcalmandcarryon (talk) 17:17, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
More new activity; IP has switched to 86.121.194.... Keepcalmandcarryon (talk) 14:04, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
I have blocked the 86.121.194.0/24 range. But this is unlikely to help much, so I have made a request for an abuse filter at Wikipedia:Abuse_filter/Requested#plwha.org. Please feel free to correct and/or add to that request as you see fit. -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:19, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

CHESNOFF

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking, but from the conversation on your talk page, I think I have an idea. If you wish to have older versions of the article which include your edits removed from the page history, this is generally not permissible. Wikipedia content is based on the licencing scheme known as GFDL. My understanding is that this license requires keeping track of individual contributions to the content. Deleting specific edits from the history of an article would violate the conditions of GFDL. If you really want to pursue this, I would recommend making a request at the administrator's noticeboard where others more familiar with the details of GFDL and of Wikipedia's policy may be able to give you a more certain answer. Sorry I can't help much. -- Ed (Edgar181) 23:02, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Burrda

Please could you tell me why you deleted the Burrda page but Nike's page is still live?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Burrda (talkcontribs) 08:48, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

It was written clearly like an advertisement and therefore met criteria for deletion (see WP:CSD#G11). If you think Burrda meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, you can write a neutral article about the company, rather than an advertisment. Also, usernames that match the name of company are not permitted, so you should sign up with a different name. Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines seem to apply here as well. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:03, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Why did you delete the Alpha Theta Chi page? All items on the site were correct. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lisalu22 (talkcontribs) 19:01, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

The article was deleted over a year ago by the Wikipedia:Proposed deletion process. The editor that nominated it for deletion used the reasoning, "Non-notable in both cases". Since there were no objections after five days, I deleted the article according to procedure. If you think either or both of the organizations described in the article meet Wikipedia's notability criteria for inclusion, the article can be undeleted upon request. For inclusion in Wikipedia, just containing information that is correct is not necessarily sufficient. A topic should demonstrate that it has "received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject". -- Ed (Edgar181) 19:48, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
It was not deleted a year ago, I read the page only a month or so ago. I am confused by your reference to both organizations, there is only one organization that was referenced in the article. Suggest review of blockage on User talk:196.211.201.130‎

Hi Edgar181: I'm not sure that a block of 48 hours is appropriate for this user, given his 'vandalism only' track-record and the fact that his previous block was for 104 hours. I've just checked a few more of that users diffs, and found this recent one which made an offensive racial attack on Ethiopians (the 'click, click, Click....' text refers to guttural phonemes of an African language; KFC is probably Kentucky Fried Chicken -hahaha, it was really not funny at all) . Wikipedia will be much better off without such miscreants creating work for other editors to fix in legitimate articles. Other admins have imposted significantly longer blocks for much less offensive behavior, and I'm requesting that a much lengthier block, preferably indefinite, by applied in this instance. Thanks for your consideration. HarryZilber (talk) 15:05, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

I hate to say it, but vandalism from this IP address is actually quite low compared to what comes from many other IPs and the edits are likely to be the work of different individuals. For IP addresses with persistent vandalism, admins generally use an escalating series of blocks beginning with 24h and ranging up to one year. You'll generally see the series of blocks something like this: 24h --> 48h --> 1 week --> 1 month --> 6 months --> 1 year. IPs are not indefinitely blocked except in extreme cases. For a second block, I think 48 hours is reasonable, even though the first was longer. If the vandalism persists, longer blocks will be appropriate. If you notice vandalism coming from this IP after the block expires, please let me know and I will promptly re-block for longer. -- Ed (Edgar181) 15:29, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Moving pages

Hi Edgar181. Please could you move the page bromadol to BDPC? User:Nuklear has moved the page from its original IUPAC name, which I agree is rather long and unwieldy, to the name "bromadol", which while consistent with the naming of related compounds such as tramadol, is nevertheless derived from a name for the compound made up by a user on a drug chat website, and so is not really appropriate for the page name on wikipedia. I advocate using the abbreviation BDPC for the page as this is what is used in the scientific literature. Meodipt (talk) 22:28, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

I agree BDPC is probably the best name, but I've left a question on the talk page first (was this ever a commercial product?) -- Ed (Edgar181) 23:04, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
No the compound has never been marketed. To complicate matters, several members from the mentioned drug chat websites contacted Dr Lednicer, who appears to be slightly bitter that the compound he worked so hard on was never marketed by Upjohn, and was happy to give his blessing to "bromadol" as a name for the compound. However just because the inventor of the compound agrees its a nice name doesn't make it official enough to be the name on wikipedia in my opinion. On the other hand I did name jimscaline after its unofficial name used in the lab that invented it, in preference to its formal chemical name, but in that case the compound didn't have an "official" abbreviation like how this one does. OK. Since Nuklear doesn't seem to object, I've gone ahead and moved the article to BDPC. -- Ed (Edgar181) 23:32, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Splenda

This is not a joke. However, for some odd reason, it is deleted every time it is put in - although it is verifiable in hundreds of online testimonials and in some academic journals.

splendasickness.blogspot.com

Do you have a problem with this? Why? After having explosive gas for weeks bc I was eating low-sugar ice cream, I seriously thought I was going to have to see a doctor and had something very wrong with me. If you have access to ALL of the academic journals, then you would see it is supported in peer reviewed publications. I can only get some of the abstracts when lesser known journals are involved.[2]

I suppose it doesnt really matter anyway since anyone can just google "splenda gas" and read what they need to. I still think the article should reflect reality, however...and it's not "original research" just bc it's in a 3rd tier journal. Blogs are not unreliable sources of data either when they have 50 posts about the same thing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Angelatomato (talkcontribs) 00:39, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia policy requires that information can be backed up with reliable sources, and this policy does not include blogs among reliable sources. I read all the documents linked to in your Google scholar search, but none of them contain any claims that Splenda and/or sucralose cause the problems that you suggest, only that sugar alcohols cause those problems. None of the linked documents are academic journals either. If you can provide me with the details of the references in peer reviewed scientific journals that you are referring to, I can probably get full text copies of them and include the relevant information in the article. -- Ed (Edgar181) 01:42, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

User:76.172.176.45 is back and at it again

Last week you blocked 76.172.176.45 (talk · contribs · WHOIS). It was his second (at least) block for disruptive editing. He's back, and he has repeated many of the same edits that caused the issue the last two times. He needs some attention. I'd like to see a good long block where he doesn't get to come back unless he promises to stop editing contrary to guidelines, etc., but I leave it to the cooler head of an Admin to decide what should be done. — John Cardinal (talk) 02:12, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Since the editor is continuing the same types of edits that have led to 3 prior blocks, I have blocked again for a month. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:30, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

sorry if i've done this wrong, not used the talk thing before, just wondering why the page on the abbreviation Lshticmstihtcmbctafocthftw was deleted by you less than 5 minutes after i posted it. are abbreviations and chat-speak not valid subjects for articles? or was it because of the relative rarity of the word? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bobbonski (talkcontribs) 12:38, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Abbreviations and chat-speak can be valid topics here, but the guideline that applies in this case is WP:NFT. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:14, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Deleting page

Last June you deleted the page for the Tweed Shire Echo newspaper, a northern NSW shire A3 weekly tabloid. It is the sister publication to The Byron Shire Echo, which has been publishing for over 20 years. It's website is here: www.echo.net.au/ Can you please give back admin to username Tweedshireecho so I can create that page again? www.tweedecho.com.au/ We are not advertising. Thanks in advance, hans@echo.net.au

I blocked the username Tweedshireecho (talk · contribs) and deleted the page User:Tweedshireecho because usernames that match the name of an organization the user is trying to promote are not permitted. You are free to sign up with a new username. You should also have a look at Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines, which seem to apply here. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:41, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

Oxone

On the Potassium peroxymonosulfate page the chemical formula is depicted incorrectly. According to Dupont the potassium ion is bonded to the hydroxyl group and not the peroxy group. It's not a huge problem, but can you fix it? Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.101.13.53 (talk) 22:36, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

You're right, it would be better to have the anion on the less basic oxygen. I have updated the image accordingly. Thanks for catching the error and letting me know. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:42, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
