Hello, TLS66, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question. Again, welcome! {helpme} Yes, I think you can help me. Earlier this morning (well, actually yesterday, I guess, considering the time it is now), I had an idle moment at work and was taking a look at an article and found some rather libelous vandalism. Trying to be helpful, I decided to remove it. Well, I tried several times but was told the servers were down. So, I went back each time to retry. On the third or fourth try, I succeeded and put "Removed vandalism" in the Edit Summary. But I'm guessing something went wrong or I missed a piece of vandalism because later that day I got a rather ominous message from someone with Admin privileges accusing me of vandalism and threatening to tell my employer. So, I created an account to try and explain what happened in a reasonable manner. I've not yet heard from him. I admit I'm rather inexperienced in editing and perhaps should have tried the sandbox first. But really, this is apparently a case of a good intention gone awry, not intentional vandalism. I do feel like it's "no good deed goes unpunished". I feel here was certainly no need for nastiness. Beginners make mistakes and may overlook things. Please advise. Help Me Question

[edit]

Please see right above. I just realized I didn't use all four brackets. Which goes to show what a beginner I am!(TLS66 (talk) 13:50, 25 September 2008 (UTC)).[reply]

It's hard to look at what happened, since this account didn't make those edits. Wikipedia's servers were indeed acting up yesterday, and we can more easily look at what happened if you can link to where the warning is. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 13:56, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome... and don't worry about it. You were trying to help and we understand. Cheers GtstrickyTalk or C 13:57, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That answer works too, of course. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 13:58, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}} Thank you, Fisher Queen and Gstricky. Herehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:208.226.153.24 is where you can find his message and another response I made. I'm not sure where the stuff from 2006 came from as I had made only one edit/addition before two years ago to the Daeths column to note the death of someone I considered notable.

IP addresses can be reassigned. So those edits are probably from a different editor. That is why it is best to register. Your edits look fine. I think you were warned in error and your edits were not reverted. All is good... GtstrickyTalk or C 14:23, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK here is my new theory on what happened... when you revert vandalism it is best to place a message on the talk page of the person that did it. Karanacs noticed you reverted the vandalism but did not warn the user. They went to warn the user and put in your IP instead of the IP of the person that did the vandalism. Easy mistake. GtstrickyTalk or C 14:27, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
More info on vandalism can be found at: Wikipedia:Vandalism. GtstrickyTalk or C 14:29, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}} Oh, that's good. Because that first message (from Bobak) was pretty baleful and I'd be lying if I did not say I suddenly felt ill on reading it. By the way, is there a way to send a message to you or another admin without typing helpme if I merely want to respond to something but have no real help request? Also, do you think I repsonded well to him? I often find it's best to be as polite as possible. (˜˜˜˜).

I am watching this page so no need for the helpme tag. :) (and I am not an admin). GtstrickyTalk or C 14:42, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The message from Bobak was from Feb 1997. It was not regarding your edits. GtstrickyTalk or C 14:57, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually...Feb. 2007, but I get the gist. I was just surprised because he did apparently know where I worked and it was the first time I was told I had messages, so I assumed he was using a template of some sort. Actually, I've wanted to contibute to Wiki for a long time, but always doubted my writing ability. Now, I think it'll be harder to find something that hasn't been covered.(TLS66 (talk) 15:30, 25 September 2008 (UTC)).[reply]

'07 yea that's what I meant. Here is another welcome message which has some good links on ways to help:
