Have the official themes been abandoned?

I'm new to Grav, but I've eagerly jumped in with one of the official themes (CeeVee). Spending some time with it though, I started to see the errors it was throwing, the components that were wildly outdated (by a decade sometimes), and issues that are ignored, or fobbed off.

Am I doing this wrong? Should I not begin with the official themes? The default Quark theme is no better. What's the state of play with Grav more broadly? (because it begs questions)
