AC Odyssey: Warrior Build Assassin's Creed Odyssey Guide and Walkthrough

Last update: 22 December 2022

Playing a warrior in Assassin's Creed Odyssey is not as effective as playing a hunter who bases his attacks on ranged damage. Building a warrior can be an interesting alternative if you prefer to blow down on enemies in melee combat. On this page you will find extensive tips on how to build a warrior in AC Odyssey. You will find out which weapons and armor to use, and which active and passive abilities you should unlock in the first place.

Basic Information about Warrior's build

  1. Playing a warrior will not allow you to deal giant critical damage, as in the case of the hunter build (a typical archer). A well-developed champion, however, will be able to inflict continuous and high damage, as well as debuffing enemies in the form of burning or poisoning.
  2. You don't have to spend 100% of your development points on unlocking abilities from the Warrior tree. This will of course make your character stronger, but unlocking some skills from other trees can also be helpful, e.g. when there is an opportunity to attack enemies with surprise.
  3. You can't create a good build at an early stage of the game. The best warrior skills, engraving and legendary items and their sets require significant advancement in the game.
  4. Try to kill enough cultists to upgrade Leonidas' Spear to level 5 in the next stage of the game. This will unlock your access to the highest levels of active skills. It is also a good idea to collect about four development points in advance and put them aside for later. Once the spear has been upgraded enough, you will be able to unlock the best versions of all your favorite active abilities right away.

Best weapons

Important note - Bonuses for statistics are calculated for both weapons in active slots - AC Odyssey: Warrior Build - Best builds - Assassins Creed Odyssey Guide

Important note - Bonuses for statistics are calculated for both weapons in active slots. As a reminder, the second slot is unlocked after level 15 (passive ability - Second weapon). Also, put a weapon with good parameters to the second slot for building a powerful warrior, even if during the game you use (mainly) a weapon from the first slot.

Nikolaos's Sword is a very good weapon for a warrior, which can be obtained at an early stage of the game. This sword is gained after meeting the Wolf of Sparta at the end of the second chapter of the story (no matter how you behave during the meeting). This weapon increases the warrior's overall damage, increases the damage dealt to Athenian soldiers, and increases damage using the Spartan Kick ability. Don't forget to add a fourth parameter for this weapon by putting some kind of blacksmith's engraving on it (the example is shown in the picture - we have put an engraving that adds poison damage to the weapon).

The great advantage of Nikolaos's Sword is also the ability to launch quick attacks. With this weapon, you can more easily attack enemies after dodging or parrying. If you like using the sword, try to upgrade it regularly at the blacksmith. It doesn't have to be very expensive as long as you don't spend drachmas and raw materials at the same time, e.g. on improving armor elements.

Another good weapon for building a strong and effective warrior is Prometheuss Sika - AC Odyssey: Warrior Build - Best builds - Assassins Creed Odyssey Guide

Another good weapon for building a strong and effective warrior is Prometheus's Sika. In order to get this weapon you have to find a mercenary Leodoke the Spark in the game world and defeat him. Remember that you can check out the mercenaries tab in the pause menu to get some additional info. Make sure that the mercenary is already uncovered. Then, find him on the world map and beat him if the current level of experience of the hero allows you to do so.

Sika is also a sword, but it has different parameters than the Nikolaos's Sword described above. Of course, it increases the warrior's damage, but it also provides bonuses for fire damage and adrenaline gain. Traditionally, don't forget to add a fourth parameter to this weapon based on one of the already unlocked engravings.

Using Prometheus's Sika is great if you want to rely on the active Flaming Attacks ability, which allows you to deal fire damage to enemies and set them on fire. An opponent attacked with this combination of weapon + ability will not only take large initial damage, but also have to deal with burning over time debuff that lasts for a few consecutive seconds.

Armor Parts

In the initial phase of the game, focus only on putting on clothing elements that increase the warriors damage - AC Odyssey: Warrior Build - Best builds - Assassins Creed Odyssey Guide

In the initial phase of the game, focus only on putting on clothing elements that increase the warrior's damage. Ultimately, however, you should aim to complete a legendary set of items related to the warrior's build. Items from legendary sets offer good statistics, but that's not all, because when you put on all five pieces of armor from the same set you get an extra bonus.

You can complete armor pieces from legendary sets by killing subsequent Cultists of Kosmos from the same branch of the cultists tree. Below we have listed two recommended sets:

  1. The first recommended legendary kit is easier to unlock due to the lower levels of associated cultists. This is the Spartan War Hero Set. The armor pieces from this set are gained by killing the cultists the Peloponnesian League. Specifically, these are: Skylaks, Monger, Silanos, Kallias and Lagos. Items in this set increase the warrior's overall damage, allow to deal higher damage to Athenians, and also increase damage from breakout attacks and critical hits.
  2. The second recommended legendary set is more difficult to complete (higher-level cultists), but it can offer more useful statistical bonuses. This is Agamemnon's Set. Armor elements from this set are obtained by killing the Silver Vein cultists. Specifically, these are: Epiktetos, Centaur, Griffin, Chimera and Machaon. Items in this set increase the warrior's overall damage, increase fire damage and adrenaline gain, and keep enemies on fire for a longer time. This is the ideal combination that merges with the active Flames Attack ability that allows you to use "burning" weapons.

Additional note - If you think about relying on the best armor only in the endgame phase (i.e. after reaching the highest 50th level), it is worth to skip killing some of the cultists who drop legendary armor pieces of specified sets. Completing the whole set, e.g. at level 30 of the hero's experience, may mean improving each of the five elements separately by as many as 20 levels (assuming that you still want to use it at level 50).

Engraving

The choice of engravings should depend on the chosen weapon and legendary armor (or elements of armor) - AC Odyssey: Warrior Build - Best builds - Assassins Creed Odyssey Guide

The choice of engravings should depend on the chosen weapon and legendary armor (or elements of armor). The most flexible engravings are:

  1. +x% warrior damage.
  2. +x% all damage.
  3. +x% armor pierce.
  4. +x% sword damage (both weapons recommended above are swords).
  5. +x% post-critical damage.
  6. +x% Overpower Attacks.

If you depend on fire attacks that set enemies on fire, check out these engravings:

  1. +x% fire damage.
  2. +x seconds of burn duration.

If you're more interested in using poison, consider these engravings:

  1. Weapon damage becomes poison damage.
  2. +x% poison damage.

Note: In order to unlock the engraving which makes weapon damage become poison damage, you have to defeat Meleagros the Weaver the mercenary (find him in the mercenaries tab). You will hence obtain the legendary dagger, Arachna'e Stingers, which will allow you to apply the engraving to different weapons.

Abilities

In the case of active abilities, check out the following (choose them according to needs and progress in the game - you cant have more than four active ones) - AC Odyssey: Warrior Build - Best builds - Assassins Creed Odyssey Guide

In the case of active abilities, check out the following (choose them according to needs and progress in the game - you can't have more than four active ones):

  1. Bull Rush - this is a very universal attack, which can be used for weakening and knocking enemies, or groups of enemies down (they should ideally be in a tight pack, best in a line).
  2. Sparta Kick - very useful for throwing enemies off roofs, ledges, etc. There's a good chance that an enemy will instantly die (if the height is big enough).
  3. Second Wind - the only defensive ability. You shouldn't underestimate it, especially if you can't dodge properly, or simply if you want additional protection.
  4. Flaming Attacks - This skill is best activated at the beginning of every fight, especially since it does not require adrenaline. Also, try to always attack the same enemy in order to fill the flaming indicator.
  5. Overpower Attacks - perfect for attacking stronger enemies. However, remember to first perform a series of normal attacks, because you need to fill at least three segments of the adrenaline bar.
  6. Battlecry of Ares - similarly to flaming attacks, you should also use the skill at the beginning of a fight. Does not require adrenaline to work. Increased damage to attacks is very helpful.

As far as passive skills are concerned, try to unlock and max out the following:

  1. Weapons Master - you have to unlock subsequent levels. Each one will increase warrior damage.
  2. Gear Master - just as in the case directly above, try to unlock new levels as you progress. Better armor will be very useful.
  3. Fire Mastery - obligatory unlock all levels of this passive ability if you use the active skill Flaming Attacks.

In addition to the ability of the tree Warrior, also consider:

  1. The active skill Rush Assassination from the Assassin tree - it's a good choice for the beginning of each battle, where the enemies aren't aware of the presence of the protagonist. After maxing out the skill, you can also attack four different enemies at the beginning of a battle, or switch between 2 to 3 stronger enemies. Using this ability will allow you to weaken the most difficult enemies from the very beginning of the battle and it will be easier to deal with them in direct battles with the use of melee weapons.
  2. The passive skill Poison Mastery from the Assassin tree - unlock all three levels of this ability if you use the engraving "weapons damage becomes poison damage" or in some other way poison your enemies with melee weapons.

How to play the warrior?

1 - AC Odyssey: Warrior Build - Best builds - Assassins Creed Odyssey Guide
  1. If you have the opportunity to sneak at enemies, it's a good idea to start the skirmish by using quick assassination to surprise and initially weaken enemies.
  2. Before the battle, activate Flaming Attacks and/or Battlecry of Ares.
  3. If you're using Flaming Attacks, make sure not to burn yourself. If that happens, you can put the fire out by performing a full dodge roll (hold dodge button).
  4. In combat, look for opportunities to use the Bull Rush and Sparta Kick, and accumulate adrenaline in order to ensure a chance for performing Overpower Attacks. It's best used to attacking strong enemies such as captains and mercenaries.
  5. If you take any serious damage, use 1 segment of adrenaline for the Second Breath ability. Remember that the ability needs some time to recharge. You cannot heal a few times in a row!
  6. If you play at a high level of difficulty, it is worth focusing on a quick development of Second Breath to the highest, third level, as well as opt for more engravings that improve armor parameters.
