The Winter-class light prowler was a classification of prowler used by the Office of Naval Intelligence. The Hull classification symbol for Winter-class ships was "PRO".[1]
Class History[]
The Winter-class was used by ONI during the final years of the Human-Covenant war, and was considered one of the most advanced vessels for its time.[1]
Post-war[]
After the war's conclusion, ONI would revisit several designs from before the war that focused more on reconaissance. The Winter-class rose to prominence from this revival in design philosophy.[2]
One particular Winter-class ship, the ONI Acrisius, stationed on the UNSC Argent Moon for its entire lifetime.[2] The ship would be used by Blue Team to escape to Apogee Station, Meridian.[3]
Design[]
The Winter-class was smaller and more compact than most classes. The class's aerodynamic design was owed to the fact that was intended for planetary insertions and deployments of black ops teams.[1] It's design and functionality is not too dissimilar to the Black Cat-class subprowler.[2]
Propulsion[]
Slipspace Drive[]
Winter-class ships feature a prototype slipspace drive that allows them to travel quickly through slipspace.[2]
Stealth Systems[]
Winter-class vessels possessed an Active camouflage system.[4] This along with other stealth systems were reverse engineered from Forerunner and Covenant Empire technologies.[2]
