Prelude 2023
Prelude is the annual induction ceremony for students newly admitted to the Jepson School of Leadership Studies. On Nov. 1, 2023, the school welcomed 95 sophomores and eight juniors to its ranks, including its first second-generation leadership studies student.
An extraordinary group, this class includes Presidential, Richmond, and Oliver Hill Scholars; Mateer Prize recipients; Eagle Scouts; journalists; and change agents. In addition to their academic accomplishments, class members work at the University Museums, Boatwright Library, 8:15, the Spider Shop, University Catering, the Tech Center, the Department of Theater and Dance, and the Law School Career Development Office. One incoming student serves as a representative for the Faculty Senate. Another teaches water ballet. Still another is a licensed cosmetologist who owns a hair-styling business.
Our students are well rounded. They are members of their respective student governing bodies, Honor Council, will, Relay for Life, Best Buddies, APO, Habitat for Humanity, Ngoma African Dance Company, Ritmo Latino, the LGBTQ+ coalition, the wind ensemble and other music groups, a cappella groups, and Greek life. They are writing and speech consultants, resident assistants, wellness peer educators, and mentors.
The Jepson School is a special place in that it brings a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of leadership, while providing a close-knit, supportive academic community. The administration, faculty, and staff extend a warm welcome to our newest leadership studies students.
