  If ever a movie needed to embody the “this city is a character” meme it’s this one. Instead it’s a weirdly conflict-less look at someone insisting he can create the “society if…” meme. Very pretty though and I think 90% of the humor is intentional!

  Finally saw the director’s cut, and everyone is right that it’s leaps and bounds better than the theatrical version (a cut that I still think is decent and better than its reputation upon initial release would suggest).

  Operatic, thoughtful, sorrowful, and technically brilliant. If Orlando Bloom had an ounce of screen presence, this whole thing might have been Ridley’s masterpiece behind Alien and Blade Runner.
