Breaking

Effective as long as it remains locked on Boyega as it allows him to give his character some physical existence that break the filmmaking heaviness while it flattens everything as soon as it tries to pull out to a larger picture as the moment he has ton function in a larger world, it is hard not to think how he exists in pure symbolic terms. The final few minutes are very bad and the cut to Michael Kenneth Williams, as the one concerned cop, as the sniper shoots one of the worst bits in a mainstream American movie this year. That's a shame because the scenes between Boyega and Williams talking on phone are the moments the movie finds some balance.
