This movie was entertaining, but it also didn’t make sense. The stakes seemed very high for this very small unincorporated town and, as a former Louisianan, I didn’t quite get what the need for corruption even was. Like was the whole force really in on this scheme that only got them $36,000 divided by however many cups there were? Did they just want a bigger budget that badly? Why were there so many people just carrying around gargantuan sums of cash while committing misdemeanors? Why were cops all gung ho on killing people for an amount of money that did not seem to make any of them even remotely wealthy? Why was AnnaSophia Robb so invested in this legitimately random man she met five minutes ago in the hallway? And (and this is unimportant, really, but it annoyed me) why was this movie called “Rebel Ridge” when almost none of the plot happened there, was it just because it sounds cool? What was the movie trying to “say?”
I mean, look, it wasn’t a bad time, but if you put any thought into it, it holds up pretty poorly.
