I just love this film so much! Other favorites of mine carry a lot of sadness. But the work of Tati, and especially PlayTime, brings me joy. A life-affirming view of the world! Something I struggle with and strive for.

PlayTime has to be viewed on a big screen with decent audio. There is so much going on that it can be overwhelming. It also lacks a clear protagonist and character arc. I therefore wouldn't recommend this film to somebody…

    La Belle Noiseuse

May be the best and worst picture on painting or art in general. It is great for that it shows us the detailed process of a painter. Finally, a film that does not cut from beginning a painting right to the end result.

    La Belle Noiseuse
dives deep into the thought behind truth in art. Its desire and drawback. Yet, for me, this is a not to be. Why? At about 2:26:15, Marianne said You can't leave me like that,…

    Southland Tales

A meme of a movie! One of the most ridiculous films I've ever seen. Extremely entertaining!

I got exactly what I wanted. More of Sarah Michelle Gellar playing Buffy Summers. In fact, there is an exact shot reference to the TV show's episode Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered. Other than that, it also was weird to see Wood Harris, who played Avon Barksdale in The Wire. TV show roles just stick too strong to an actor.

    I found the first hour…

    Disappointed!

Did not know that episodes 5 and 6 were short versions of A Short Film about Killing and A Short Film about Love. I had only seen the second movie, which I did like. But the episode version was not working for me at all. Way too rushed and made the protagonist look like just a weird guy instead of a lonely young man having had no experience with woman.

The other episodes were okay, but nothing that made…

    Last Year at Marienbad

Watching “Last Year At Marienbad” did not feel like watching “Last Year At Marienbad”. It felt like watching subtitles. The glimpses of the images I could get, revealed some interesting compositions. But as a German who does not speak or understand French, I had to, more often than not, choose between looking at the image or looking at the subtitles. And neither choice felt like getting the complete experience. Should I have watched the German dubbed version?

    I remember watching…

    Killers of the Flower Moon

The topic is one that Scorsese seems to deeply care about. I wish he would have been able to put that on screen for me.

There were a few shots that stood out. Like the silhouette from behind of Hale in the cinema. Or the working men viewed through fire. But overall, the visuals were inconsistent. Many shots looked “cheap”, too “digital”. The lighting often bland.

The performance of DiCaprio was disappointing. A lot of :( like imitating the Godfather.…
