History

The Louvre Museum (French: Musée du Louvre), or just the Louvre is the world's most-visited museum, and a historic landmark in Paris, France. A central landmark of the city, it is located on the Right Bank of the Seine in the city's 1st arrondissement. It is the home of some of the best known works of art, including the Mona Lisa[3] and the Venus de Milo[4].

20th century[]

On August 21, 1911 by museum employee Vincenzo Perugia stole the Mona Lisa from the museum. It was later recovered becoming the most famous painting in the world.[3]

In 1941, the Avengers suddenly appeared almost in the shadow of the historic Louvre, where, after fighting off a small army of Nazis, they were soon confronted by the Invaders, who believed they had been sent by the Nazis.[5] During World War II, the Nazi's planned to steal France's treasure by raiding the Louvre. Before the mission, Bucky and Captain America had an argument and Bucky went to face the Red Skull alone to prove himself. Cap discovered this while he and the Howling Commandos, and the Cirque de la Revolution were about to bust into the museum to stop the theft. They found Baron Strucker and a regiment of soldiers who was told of the mission thanks to Olivier Batroc had betrayed them.[6] However Strucker only intended to allow them their lives, Olivier and his friends were going to be sent to Auschwitz while Paris is to burned. In a last ditch effort, realizing his fault, Olivier took a bullet for the group dying in Marilyne's arms which sets forth battle and the allied forces pushed back the Nazi threat.[7]

The infamous cat burglar Walter Hardy stole a priceless painting by Vincent van Gogh from the Louvre.[8]

Modern Age[]

The Antiquarian Herve Marat was hired by the Kingpin to frame the Black Cat. They set a trap for her at the Louvre when she thought she found the French Crown Jewels.[9] Later Captain Mar-Vell marveled at the painting of "Alexander Entering Babylon", stating that the Kree had no art like this. It was at that moment the mercenary Cyclone attacked tracking the Kree Warrior. [10] Ben Grimm of the Fantastic Four took his girlfriend Alicia Masters thanks to Lockjaw to visit the Venus de Milo at the Louvre. She however left disappointed as it was roped off and due to being blind she could not experience it without touching it. The Thing then decided to take her back in time to when it was first sculpted.[4] The Grey Gargoyle once broke it the Louvre and stole the Mona Lisa.[11]Deadpool and Shiklah broke into the museum, which he called "The Da Vinci Code Hall of Justice", to steal a pair of Katanas from the Japanese exhibit.[1] When Doc Green cured Skaar one of the first places he took him in his now human form was the Louvre.[12] Gambit was caught trying to rob the Louvre, but was stopped by security, he escaped using a energy infused dice to blow out the wall leaping to be saved by Fantomex who was hanging out of E.V.A. in her aircraft form.[13] The Warriors of the Deadly Hammer took over the wing at the museum holding ancient Chinese art looking for an urn holding an ancient amulet. They were confronted by Shang-Chi, but he was unable to stop the theft as they caused an explosion to escape.[14] Cable broke into the Louvre to take Celeste Cuckoo on a date.[15]

Professor X and Magneto found Emma Frost at the foot of the statue "Winged Victory of Samothrace" surrounded by a crowd of tourists. Professor X used his powers telling all the people to leave and the crowd dispersed. They met her there to invite her to come join them on the island of Krakoa the new Mutant homeland.[16] The Krakoans later travelled to the Louvre once again to meet with the recently resurrected Moira MacTaggert. This time it was Emma Frost who told the crowd to disperse using her powers and they learned the truth of her origin.[17]

When mutant warrior Solem travelled around the globe enjoying the pleasures of Earth a nude painting was found in the Palace of Versailles and a mural inside the Louvre.[2]

Dark Ages (Earth-80763)[]

In Earth-80763, 7 years after an EMP wiped out technology all over the world, Apocalypse took over Europe and set up a laboratory in the Louvre that transformed Magneto into a Faraday cage to hold back the EMP. He also forced many of the world's geniuses to work for him through the use of the Purple Man's mind-control power.[18]
