History
Nemesus was a demonic entity and member of the mystical Overlords Eight. Years ago, he planned an invasion of Earth that was held back by the X-Men. As the team prepared to hop home, they realized their dimensional gateway would remain open unless someone closed it from the far side. Juggernaut volunteered and forced his team leader Wolverine through the portal, staying behind to confront Nemesus' hordes.[1]
Nemesus held Marko captive for years, trying to steal the power of Cyttorak from him. Somehow, Juggernaut managed to will the power away from Nemesus when it left his body, sending the power of the Juggernaut to Earth and his teenaged son, Zane Yama, who became J2.[2]
When J2 and his mystic ally Doc Magus went looking for Juggernaut, Nemesus opposed them with his darkling hordes and a monster altered to look like Cain Marko.[3]
On a second attempt, J2 and Doc found the real Cain Marko and freed him from Nemesus's prison. With the help of the original Defenders, Zane and his father returned home to Earth with the heroes.[2]
Nemesus later attempted another invasion of Earth, using a mystical machine that made his armies invisible to humans. J2's helmet protected him from the spell, however, and he and Spider-Girl drove back the darklings. They traveled to Nemesus' dimension and destroyed his machine, causing a feedback that made Nemesus and his darklings invisible to each other.[4]
