Rutherford Winner (Earth-616)

Rutherford Winner was one of the random people kidnapped by the evil organization Hydra as part of their Pygmalion Project, consisting of subjecting regular people to torture, implanted memories, and other procedures in order to rebuild them in their image.

After going through the reprogramming, Winner was deployed to the field and proved to be extremely effective on countless missions. However, S.H.I.E.L.D. got hold of him and used him for their own interests. He kept being an impressive killing machine, until finally getting free and going freelance. During that time, he crossed paths with Colleen Wing and Misty Knight, the Daughters of the Dragon, and put them through some tough times. In the end, they decided to help him.^[1]

Winner was institutionalized at the Ravencroft Institute,^[2] and his psychiatrist was Dr. Andrea Sterman.^[3] Following Sterman's disappearance, Winner broke out of Ravencroft to rescue her. He confronted his suspect, one of Sterman's other patients, Moon Knight, who was unaware that the Sterman who had conducted his recent sessions was in reality the impersonator Waxman. Winner's confrontation made Moon Knight realize that something was amiss. He exposed Waxman and set out to rescue Sterman alongside Winner.^[4]
