Jerry Ayres (21 September 1936 – 14 May 2013; age 76) was an actor who played O'Herlihy in the Star Trek: The Original Series first season episode "Arena" and Rizzo in the second season episode "Obsession". Ayres filmed his scenes for "Arena" on Friday 11 November 1966 at the fortress set near Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park and Tuesday 15 November 1966 at Desilu Stage 9. He filmed his scenes for "Obsession" on Thursday 12 October 1967 and Friday 13 October 1967 at Stage 9 and Stage 10.

Ayres was born as Gerald Hoyt Ayres, Jr.. He went on to become a regular on the soap operas General Hospital and The Bold and the Beautiful. He also had a recurring role in the first season of the television drama series Dynasty. He appeared in seven episodes, including the pilot ("Oil") and "The Chaffeur Tells a Secret", both helmed by "Obsession" director Ralph Senensky. The former also featured Peter Mark Richman, Lee Bergere, Ellen Geer, Julie Parrish, and Paul Sorensen. Senensky also directed him in "Double Jeopardy", the pilot of Dan August, which featured Ned Romero, Susan Oliver, and Fritz Weaver. Ayres also appeared in the 1979 television movie Disaster on the Coastliner (with William Shatner and Michael Pataki and featuring the music of Gerald Fried).

Ayres passed away from natural causes on May 14, 2013. He was 76. [1]
