Joshua "Josh" D. Rose was a digital visual effects (VFX) artist and CEO at VisionArt Design & Animation (founded on 10 September 1985 by father David L. Rose and his business partner Todd Hess [1]) who worked on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: First Contact.
Together with David Takemura, Rose created the wormhole effect seen in the Deep Space Nine fourth season episode "Rejoined". (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, p. 280) Rose has also been instrumental in getting his company the chance to work on the theatrical feature First Contact, for which they not only created the T'Plana-Hath-type CGI model proper, but also its entire landing sequence as featured in the film. (Cinefex, issue 69, p. 118)
Career[]
Rose worked as digital or VFX supervisor on Mirror, Mirror II: Raven Dance (1994), Cyborg Cop II (1994), Attack of the5 Ft. 2 In. Women (1994), Favorite Deadly Sins (1995), the fantasy adventure Storybook (1996), Godzilla (1998), Dr. Dolittle (1998), Baby Geniuses (1999, the last recorded year that VisionArt was still in operation), and the war drama To End All Wars (2001, in the employ of Whisdom Entertainment).
His credits as digital producer or computer graphics producer include Independence Day (1996), Alaska (1996), Jingle All the Way (1996), Men in Black (1997), and A Simple Wish (1997). In 2001, Rose worked as one of the directors on the war drama The Painting, which featured Ben Vereen and Bumper Robinson.
Upon the closure of VisionArt in 2000, an effort was made by the original founders to restart the company on the same location as Santa Monica Studios, LLC. (not to be confused with the successful computer games company of the same name owned by Sony), with Josh Rose again slated to serve as Executive Vice-President, but that company never got off the ground, until the early-2010s only renting out the real estate on the property. Rose himself has dropped out of sight after his two last recorded motion picture contributions in 2001.
