Benedict Arnold (14 January 1741 - 14 June 1801) was a an 18th century Human man. He was a general in the Continental Army during the American Revolution, but in 1780 struck a deal with British Major John Andre, and switched sides to the British Army.
Biography[]
Through much of history, he was considered a traitor to the American side. However, in the mid 24th century, a historian named Montmorency published a monograph titled Benedict Arnold, Patriot, which advanced the theory that Arnold was in fact a double agent who infiltrated the British military to undermine their efforts against the North American colonies. (TNG comic: "The Lesson")
- It is unclear what basis, if any, Montmorency's theories may have in real historical scholarship.
Legacy[]
In Borath's artificial simulation, Benjamin Sisko was worried that his name would become the Bajoran equivalent of Arnold or Judas Iscariot for promising them Bajor would not be handed to the Dominion, unaware that the Federation Council had agreed just that. (DS9 novelization: The Search)
In an alternate timeline in which Khan Noonien Singh had won the Eugenics Wars, Shannon O'Donnel compared trying to tell the truth of Khan's past atrocities in the 24th century to telling 21st century Americans that Benedict Arnold founded America and George Washington was a murderous traitor. (DS9 - Myriad Universes novel: Seeds of Dissent)
