In the time before the Dominion War, the Detapa Council represented the marginalized civilian government of the Cardassian Union. (DS9 episode: "Defiant")
The Council was re-established in the time following the end of the war and to serve as a basis for Cardassia Prime's burgeoning democratization. (DS9 novel: Cardassia: The Lotus Flower)
In the aftermath of the Iconian War between the galactic resistance and the Iconian Empire in 2410, a ship was named Detapa and launched alongside the Damar and Ghemor in the same year. The Detapa was the prototype for an intel escort class that incorporated escort and intel starship features. The Cardassian Union shared this class with the rest of the Khitomer Alliance, including its newest member, the Dominion and its Vanguard Fleet.
From 2410 onward, the Detapa represented its class in the Alliance's shipyard operations interface. (STO - Engineered for War mission: "Ceremony")
Khitomer Alliance flag officers deployed Detapa for missions around the galaxy's four quadrants as part of the four-quadrant strategy. (STO - Victory Is Life mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock", admiralty system)
