Deneb IV (or Alpha Cygni IV) was a Class M planet, and was the fourth planet located in the Alpha Cygni system. Deneb was also home to the humanoid species known as the Bandi. (ST reference: Star Charts)
Specifics[]
Deneb IV was the only class M planet in its system. It had a predominantly desert climate. Mineral content of the crust was 40% normal metals, 22% radioactives, 9% gemstones, and 2% industrial crystals, with trace amounts of special minerals. (FASA RPG module: First Year Sourcebook)
Flinan trees were native to Deneb IV. (TNG novel: The Eyes of the Beholders)
History[]
In 2362, the Federation made first contact with the Bandi of Deneb IV and met with their leader, Groppler Zorn. The contact went well and Zorn promised the Federation that the Bandi could construct a magnificent starbase for use by them.
By 2364, Farpoint Station had been "constructed" and the USS Enterprise-D was dispatched to the planet to investigate the starbase, as well as collect the rest of her remaining personnel. Eventually, Captain Jean-Luc Picard was able to ascertain that the starbase was actually a projection created by a star-jelly. (TNG episode & novelization: Encounter at Farpoint)
In 2364, Leonard McCoy and Tonia Barrows traveled to Deneb IV aboard the USS Hood, where McCoy toured the new Enterprise. (TOS - Crucible novel: Provenance of Shadows, TNG episode & novelization: Encounter at Farpoint)
- Star Charts mistakenly refers to this planet as "Alpha Leonis IV" on page 34, but that would be Regulus, not Deneb. It is given the correct designation elsewhere in the book (e.g., pages 12, 41).

Background[]
- Pre-TNG references to Deneb IV orbiting Alpha Cygni were retconned to refer to Deneb Kaitos IV in the Deneb Kaitos system in ST reference: Star Charts. This was done to explain discontinuities between the Deneb system well-known to the Federation in the 23rd century and the more distant Deneb system at the Federation's frontier in the mid-24th century.
