The fire-suppression system was a technology system on starships and starbases that used force fields or foam material to smother flames from a fire outbreak.

History and specifications[]

This system was programmed to function automatically on Federation starships and space stations in both the prime universe and the Kelvin timeline. (TNG episode: "Up the Long Ladder", TOS video game: Star Trek)

Failing the automatic activation, in some cases it could be activated using a tricorder, such as those of the 23rd century Federation Starfleet in the Kelvin timeline.

USS Enterprise.

Kirk and Spock activated this system aboard the USS Enterprise to put out various fires caused by the Gorn attack. They also located a Gorn intruder who was using a personal cloaking device to evade capture. The foam revealed the outline of the Gorn, allowing them to see and fire on him. (TOS video game: Star Trek)
