The Gamma Quadrant is one of the four quadrants of the Milky Way Galaxy.
History and specifics[]
The inhabitants include (but are not limited to) the Changelings, Vorta, Jem'Hadar and T-Rogoran, all of whom are members of the Dominion, an interstellar empire that controls most of the quadrant. (DS9 episodes: "Emissary", "The Jem'Hadar")
In 2369, Benjamin Sisko and Jadzia Dax discovered a wormhole near Bajor and space station Deep Space 9 that connected the Alpha Quadrant to the Gamma Quadrant, the discovery of which eventually led to the Dominion War. (DS9 episodes: "Emissary", "Call to Arms")
History[]
At around Stardate 28920.15 Starfleet sent ships on missions to the Gamma Quadrants. Personal logs of these missions have been broadcasted to the entire United Federation of Planets. (ST video game: Infinite)
After the Dominion War, the Dominion permitted Federation starships to renew the exploration of the Quadrant. Commander Elias Vaughn commanded the USS Defiant in the first exploratory mission in 2376. The crew of the Defiant made first contact with the Vahni Vahltupali, the Yrythny, the Cheka, the D'Naali, the Nyazen and the USS Valkyrie, which had been assimilated by the Borg. (DS9 - Mission Gamma novels: Twilight, This Gray Spirit, Cathedral, Lesser Evil)
In 2383, the USS Enterprise began a joint exploration mission in the Gamma Quadrant with the Romulans. The USS Robinson also spent several months in the Gamma Quadrant at the same time. (ST - Typhon Pact novels: Plagues of Night, Raise the Dawn)
Scientific phenomenon[]
The Gamma Quadrant planet Meridian exists in another dimension for sixty years, existing for only a few days when it phases back into normal space. (DS9 episode: "Meridian")
