Gren was the Breen ambassador to the United Federation of Planets in the year 2381. During the renewed Borg invasion, he refused to supply starships for the Federation fleet at an emergency summit on Earth. Federation President Nanietta Bacco later convinced Ferengi ambassador Derro to hire the Breen as a mercenary force to fight on their behalf in the allied fleet. (ST - Destiny novel: Mere Mortals)

Gren was later promoted to thot and assigned as the Breen delegate to the Typhon Pact governing board. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Zero Sum Game)
