For the mirror universe counterpart, see Jaro Essa (mirror).

Jaro Essa was a Bajoran male who lived during the 24th century. A politician, he once served in the Bajoran Chamber of Ministers, and also was the leader of the Alliance for Global Unity.

Biography[]

In 2318, while serving as a major in the Bajoran Militia, Jaro was present for the official first contact between his people and the Cardassians. This eventually led to the Occupation of Bajor, which began in earnest a decade later. (ST - Terok Nor novel: Day of the Vipers) The Militia was left in shambles during the Occupation; after the Cardassians withdrew from Bajor, Jaro led efforts to reconstitute the organization. (TLE - Terok Nor novel: Dawn of the Eagles)

In 2370, Jaro attempted to lead a coup d'état against the government of Bajor, buying weapons from Kressari merchants, who had received weapons from Cardassians in an attempt to destabilize the Bajoran government in the hopes that the United Federation of Planets would be forced to leave, which would leave the Cardassians free to reconquer the Bajoran system - including the Bajoran wormhole. The Cardassian connection to the Circle was exposed, which caused it to fail. (DS9 episodes: "The Homecoming", "The Circle", "The Siege")

In 2372, Jaro offered his assistance to First Minister Shakaar Edon when a group of aliens planned to destroy Bajor. (DS9 novel: Objective: Bajor)

Following the unsuccessful coup, Jaro was forced out of office, and was eventually imprisoned at Kran-Tobal prison. As of 2376, Jaro was still being held at Kran-Tobal. (DS9 - Worlds of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine novel: Bajor: Fragments and Omens)

Alternate timeline[]

In an alternate timeline in which the Klingon Empire conquered the Cardassian Union and liberated Bajor, Jaro was the Bajoran liaison to Klingon governor Kamuk. (ST - Myriad Universes novel: Honor in the Night)
