Orbital shuttle 2286 landed

An orbital shuttle at Starfleet Headquarters in the year 2286.

The orbital shuttle was a type of shuttlecraft utilized by the Federation in the 23rd and 24th centuries, often used in and around Earth and the Earth Spacedock.

History and specifications[]

The orbital shuttles were in service as early as the mid-2260s decade and remained in service for at least another century. (TOS comic: "No Compromise Part One"; TNG episode: "Conspiracy"; TNG comic: "Loyalty")

In 2273, while traveling with Rear Admiral James T. Kirk and Commander Montgomery Scott aboard one, Dr. Leonard McCoy nicknamed such shuttles "Boneshakers", deriding their rough travel through the atmosphere. Kirk replied that if Scott said they were safe, they were safe. (TOS eBook: Shadow of the Machine)
