Lieutenant Pittarese was a human Starfleet officer who served on the USS Enterprise in 2267. She dated Ensign Berganza for a time, but they eventually broke up. Uhura mentioned this to Sulu while they were waiting for a turbolift, prompting him to remark "never mix biophysics and astronomy". (TOS novel: The Disinherited)

Lieutenant Pittarese may have been named after DC Comics editor Frank Pittarese.
