Sam Lavelle was a 24th century Human man who served as an officer in Starfleet. His grandfather was Canadian.

Biography[]

Lavelle attended a church in Brooklyn when he was a child. (TNG - The Dominion War novels: Behind Enemy Lines, Tunnel Through the Stars)

In 2370, Lavelle graduated from Starfleet Academy and was assigned to the USS Enterprise-D as an ensign. He served as flight controller with distinction, noted for promotion by Commander William T. Riker. Lavelle received a promotion to lieutenant junior grade later that same year, assigned to operations during the night shift. Lavelle was a fan of poker and Ancient West Earth literature. (TNG episode: "Lower Decks")

By 2372, Lavelle was promoted to lieutenant and had been assigned to USS Enterprise-E, filling in as tactical officer and security chief.

In 2373, Sam Lavelle served on the bridge at one of the forward posts while the ship was in orbit of late 1990s Earth in an alternate reality. He gave Riker, temporarily in charge of the vessel while Captain Jean-Luc Picard was on an away mission, status updates. Up to that point nothing happened, and Lavelle considered the situation to be dull, an assessment agreed with by Beverly Crusher. (TNG comic: "Second Contact")

First splinter timeline[]

In 2374, Lavelle was serving aboard the USS Aizawa when the vessel was attacked by the Dominion. Lavelle was captured by the Jem'Hadar and taken to an internment camp in the Badlands. (TNG - The Dominion War novels: Behind Enemy Lines, Tunnel Through the Stars)

In 2387, Lavelle had been promoted to Commander and was working for Starfleet Intelligence. (TNG - Collateral Damage)

Alternate versions[]

In an alternate timeline, Lavelle rose to the rank of lieutenant and served as flight controller on the Enterprise-D in 2378. He had been in a relationship with Sito Jaxa. (TNG - Myriad Universes short story: "Brave New World")

In a future created by Q, Lavelle commanded the Enterprise-D. (TNG novelization: All Good Things)
