The Tal'Kyr class was a Vulcan starship/shuttlecraft class, a support craft in Confederacy of Vulcan and Federation service from the 22nd century. It was an auxiliary craft attached to D'Kyr-class vessels. (ENT episode: "Future Tense"; STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

History[]

In March 2153, a D'Kyr-class vessel visiting a Tellarite space station had his warp ring lowered. It's Tal'Kyr support craft had detached and was absent. (ENT episode: "Bounty")

In 2409, the Confederacy of Vulcan made this type available for Starfleet use, alongside the D'Kyr class. STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

From that year onwards, an Allied, non-Federation officer, from nations like the Romulan Republic and the Dominion, who had been granted the stature of a Starfleet officer, was granted to command a Tal'Kyr if they also owned a D'Kyr science vessel. (STO - From the Ashes missions: "Turning Point", "Neutral No More")

Mirror universe[]

In 2155, the Terran Empire-controlled USS Defiant, a vessel from the 23rd century, crippled a rebel D'Kyr by detonating its docked Tal'Kyr support craft. (ENT episode: "In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II")

Specifications[]

ATal'Kyr support craft held a crew of 25, which included two bridge officers.

They were classified as support craft because they were not designed to be combat vessels. They were designed to be used to support their carrier craft along with ally ships. This was done through the use of structural integrity fields that were used by the shuttle to repair the damage sustained on a targets shield or hull. The Tal'Kyr support craft were not dedicated attack ships but could be deployed in combat to aid its mothership. STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Specifications[]

Class variations[]

The hull of the Tal'Kyr-class support craft did not allow its commanding officer to choose from different designs of livery, but the base type could be modified further. The base type was designated "Type 1". (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Furthermore, the installation of deflector shields from specific factions modified the hull appearance, including shields from the Reman Resistance, the Breen Confederacy and the Dominion. (STO missions: "Coliseum", "Cold Storage", "Boldly They Rode")
