The USS Antares (NCC-501) was a Federation Antares-class supply and survey vessel in service to Starfleet in the mid 23rd century. The Antares had a crew of twenty, and was commanded by Captain Ramart.
In 2266, the Antares was drawn to the planet Thasus and found a 17-year-old human named Charlie Evans. Evans exerted his extraordinary mental powers to control the crew of the Antares and arranged a rendezvous with the USS Enterprise, so that they could take Charlie to Earth Colony 5.
Once Charlie was aboard the Enterprise and the crew of the Antares had re-established themselves, they tried to warn Captain James T. Kirk about Evans, but Charlie was able to use his psychokinetic powers to remove the baffle plate on the Antares' Nerst generator and destroy the ship. (TOS episode & novelization: Charlie X; TOS - The Janus Gate novel: Present Tense)

Background[]
In the original TOS episode the Antares was unseen, however in the 2007 remastered edition of the episode it was pictured alongside the Enterprise. The remastered design appears to have been taken from the Federation robotic drone ships of the TAS episode "More Tribbles, More Troubles". For the most part the Antares' design is identical, with an additional forward module containing the bridge and accompanying facilities for the Antares' crew.
The Antares was not given the USS prefix in dialog or on the CGI model used for the remastered episode. The prefix comes from The Star Trek Encyclopedia, which also includes the registry number, NCC-501. This registry was later applied to the CGI model.
