The USS Yamato (NCC-1705) was a Federation Constitution-class (of the mk II Bonhomme Richard-subclass) class I/class XI heavy cruiser starship in service to Starfleet in the 23rd century.

Service history[]

The Yamato was built to mk II specifications and entered service on reference stardate 1/9903. She was later refit to mk III specifications on stardate 2/0311. (FASA RPG module: Federation Ship Recognition Manual)

Circa 2270, the Yamato was attached to Starfleet Task Force 41, a fleet which patrolled Sector Alpha 19, including regions of the Orion Neutral Zone.

On reference stardate 2/1201, the Yamato fought in Border Incident #45612 against Kolar's Squadron of the Klingon Empire. The Yamato and the USS Dallas concentrated return fire on the squadron's K't'alla-class, which eventually auto destructed to avoid surrender. (StarDrive Issue 1: "Tactics of the Imperial Klingon Navy")

Around stardate 2/1711.15, Yamato was assigned to escort a neutrolium transport convoy of Lotus Flower-class freighters, in the company of two other vessels, both Baker-class destroyers. While on a far stretch of the convoy's route, the Yamato group was attacked by the Red Wing of the Klingon Empire's 123rd Assault Flotilla. The Klingon ship managed to destroy three freighters and one destroyer before Yamato entered firing range and scared the Klingons back over their border. Although devastating, the attack had a positive upshot for the survivors of the Yamato group, as they had numerous pieces of evidence, including eyewitness observations, proving without a doubt that the Klingons had engaged in a sneak attack in Federation space. (FASA RPG module: The White Flame Starship Combat Scenario Pack: "Ayirn Patrol")

Yamato was refit for the last time, to become a mk I Enterprise-subclass in that same year, following that engagement, sometime between stardates 2/1705 and 2/1711. By 2/1906, the Yamato had been reassigned as a training vessel. (FASA RPG module: Federation Ship Recognition Manual)

After the Yamato took on training vessel status, on a reference stardate that takes place in the mid-2270s, there is no further record of the ship being refit to the later Enterprise subclasses in use by the 2280s and 2290s, when another ship, the USS Yamato, is known to have been assigned this vessel's name.
