They want to get away from their passive father and overbearing mother, who is feuding with the next-door neighbour over land ownership. The story is partly told from the point of view of the neighbour, who paints the family as a bunch of whores, weirdos, thieves and sadists. We realize that everything we have seen so far is a story within a story, being shot by a film crew on a farm somewhere in Croatia.
