restaging sfumato
Robert Seidel and students of the HMDK class of Puppetry and Animation (Figurentheater) met and restaged the artwork sfumato in an improvised performance, supervised by theatre teacher Prof. Stephanie Rinke. A dynamic stage set, ephemeral paper sculptures and frozen gestures added another layer of exploration to the multifaceted artwork sfumato.
Accompanied by a drone ambient score provided by Seidel, the performers took up actions from the video performance and collaged a new, semi-narrative reality on top. restaging sfumato was commissioned by Filmwinter Stuttgart, which supports artistic research in the tradition of expanded cinema.
