veneer #1
The series of virtual sculptures are studies for a future experimental film by the Berlin-based artist Robert Seidel.

The intertwined fragments show calligraphic features and condense into sculptural clusters. Digital modelling allows the artist to work beyond physical boundaries, so that the construction and animation of the objects merge on several levels. The dimensions also seem to be out of proportion - associations ranging from nanobots to space stations seem possible. By detaching them from the filmic transformation, the artist provides an insight into his drafting process.
In contrast to the final film, the abstract 3D objects are frozen and illuminated from all directions. veneer #1 is accompanied by a soundtrack by Seidel's long-time companion, the Hamburg composer Nikolai von Sallwitz, who contributes an ambient piece that adds a new, warm layer to the visual universe. For the exhibition EVOLVING KINECTICS, an augmented reality version of the sculpture was also developed, which can be explored via a tablet and slowly traces its paths.
