The International Peace Museum to host Peace Post
Peace is anything but – it’s a concept full of contrasting extremes. It’s fragile yet resilient, and intangible yet imperative. Peace is often welcomed in theory, yet elusive in practice.
Enter Peace Post. A collection of 198 portraits of people who fought for peace from every country in the world. This year Peace Post was invited to exhibit at the International Museum of Peace in Dayton, Ohio. As the only peace museum in the United States, it was a natural fit.
The exhibit timeline, from September 6 to November 2, 2024, encompasses significant dates such as the International Day of Peace on September 21, World Peace Day on September 26, and the Nobel Peace Prize announcement in mid-October.
Each bold portrait is inspired by a peace advocate’s story and country. Experiencing the full portrait collection en masse is both inviting and emotionally challenging. With over 100 artists representing the inspirational peace makers, it is a collection that educates and unites us all.
I first encountered Selman’s work while reporting a news story on their BBC x 365 project. It’s no surprise that a project like Peace Post made sense for the team as well. Selman chooses studio projects with potential to use design for a massively helpful impact on the world.
As a traveling educational art resource, Peace Post’s in-person exhibit offers activism-focused venues, community spaces, cultural institutions, and libraries around the country the opportunity to display the exhibit free of charge. We are currently building our schedule for exhibitions and workshops in 2025 and 2026.
Anyone who is in interested can contact Peace Post founder Johnny Selman or Selman’s PR Consultant Eliza Evans for more information.
The opening reception is on September 6, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. EST.
