Growing up in the Netherlands, Kymara was taught the importance of talking about and expressing one’s feelings. In her mid-twenties she started to find her own unique voice through songwriting. It was there that she was able to draw from her own life experiences and put it into her music with themes of love, race and personal growth. Therefore, her music is a beautiful combination of Nina Simone’s storytelling, D’Angelo’s soulfulness and the purity and rawness of Janis Joplin. In anticipation of upcoming shows Kymara released the song ‘No Matter What They Say’, a summer love song for her boyfriend. The track is mixed by Ben Kane (Anderson .Paak, D’Angelo), produced by The Purist (Madlib, MF DOOM, Danny Brown) and recorded in Brighton, Amsterdam and London. The song is about her long-distance relationship. She and her boyfriend often get the question ‘How do you keep things going?’ Kymara received support from multiply Spotify editorial playlists, Hollands largest public radiostation NPO2 and BBC1’s Jack Saunders. She won the Drake YolanDa Award who support upcoming talented artists, played the Great Escape Festival, Eurosonic Festival and sold out Komedia and Green Dore Store in Brighton. |
