Chancellor

The Chancellor of the High Council of the Klingon Empire is the head of government of the Klingon Empire.

Although the Empire was founded by Emperor Kahless the Unforgettable in the 9th century, the reign of the last Emperor ended in the mid-21st century and political leadership passed on to the Chancellor of the High Council. In 2369, a figurehead-Emperor was installed again as moral leader, but all real political power remained with the Chancellor.

The current Chancellor of the Klingon High Council is L'Rell, who ascended to the position following the death of J'mpok in 2411. She is a clone of the original L'Rell, who had ascended to the Chancellorship in 2257; she was created by Tenavik and the monks of Boreth as a suitable replacement for J'mpok, who had gone mad and declared himself Emperor.
