Tales of the War

Tales of the War is a series of short blog posts published on the official Star Trek Online web page. The posts are written from an in-universe perspective, and tell short stories set during the Iconian War. Many of the stories serve as preludes or postscripts to in-game missions.

Tales of the War #1[]

• On Stardate 87305.1, two days after the start of the Iconian invasion, Captain Tom Paris meets with Admiral Jorel Quinn to discuss the formation of Delta Flight. This story serves as a prelude to “Delta Flight”.

Tales of the War #2[]

• Klingon officer Bekk Jornth composes a personal log entry on Stardate 87310.7, as he prepares to defend Qo'noS against the Iconian threat. The references to transports suggest this may occur during the events of “Gateway to Gre'thor”.

Tales of the War #3[]

• A'dranna composes a personal log on Stardate 87327.8, in the aftermath of “Blood of Ancients”. She disagrees with Proconsul D'Tan's decision to postpone any further research or use of the Iconian gateway on New Romulus, and intends to seek the support of Admiral Kererek to continue her research.

Tales of the War #4[]

• K'men meets with T'Kora, one of his Klingon Intelligence agents, to discuss the latest casualty reports. Disturbed by the prospect of a war of attrition the Resistance is destined to lose, they discuss adopting an unorthodox - and dishonorable - approach to the war. This entry serves as a prelude to “House Pegh”.

Tales of the War #5[]

• Captain Va'Kel Shon of the U.S.S. Enterprise composes a letter of condolence to the parents of Ensign Joshua Madison, a recently-deceased engineering officer. He reflects on the lives endangered and lost in the war, and on the burden of command.

• An excerpt from Loresinger B'Alea's "Kahless the Unforgettable" pays tribute to Emperor Kahless in the aftermath of “House Pegh”.

Tales of the War #7[]

• Guroth assists Lieutenant Kelsen of the U.S.S. Mercury, who is upgrading the Mercury's systems. Guroth argues in favor of increasing the explosive yield of the vessel's torpedoes, even at the expense of the backup life support system, which he considers unnecessary in a time of war. He vows to modify six torpedoes for now, and "test" them during the next battle against the Heralds.

Tales of the War #8[]

• Kagran negotiates the purchase of a purported Krenim artifact from Qwen. He arranges for the artifact to be sent to Drozana Station to be transferred; however, Qwen has been less than honest about how the artifact came into his possession, and secretly plans to sell the artifact to another party. This story serves as a prelude to “Time in a Bottle”.

Tales of the War #9[]

• Following the events of “House Pegh”, T'Ket confers with a fellow Iconian, L'Miren. T'Ket is furious with L'Miren's interest in "mortals," and advocates destroying them all. L'Miren responds by saying there is no point in ruling a galaxy of ghosts. L'Miren suggests trying to guide the lesser races of the galaxy, and mentions that the Whole must be as One, including a being referred to as "the Other."

• Doctor Rhian Cratak confronts and comforts Gaius Selan, who has been searching for Sela since her manipulation of him in “Uneasy Allies”.

Tales of the War #11[]

• Exhausted from the battles of the Iconian War, Ramir meets with the members of House Pegh. While they are in dire need of leave to recuperate, Ramir rallies his crew to plan an attack, intended to draw the Heralds away from the gateways to the Delta Quadrant, while the remainder of the Iconian Resistance prepares a new weapon to use in the war.

Tales of the War #12[]

• At a facility in the Kyana System, Captain Nog must manage internal disputes among the joint team of Iconian Resistance and Krenim engineers to build Annorax's time ship and weapon. The team members, including Seven of Nine, A'dranna, and a Krenim named Noye, are not working well together under the immense pressures and time constraints of their project.

Tales of the War #13[]

• Commanding the Enterprise during the night shift, Lieutenant Jirelle Kav receives a distress signal from a freighter, the Treva, which has been attacked by Heralds. Lieutenant Kav summons Commander Samuel Winters to the bridge; the crew has been forcing Captain Shon to rest, and Commander Winters vows to summon the Captain once the Enterprise arrives at the Treva.

Tales of the War #14[]

• On Stardate 87264.5, Admiral Quinn records a personal log entry at Earth Spacedock. He reflects on the disastrous events of “Broken Circle”, and privately disputes claims that the attack on the Herald Sphere was even a partial victory. He notes that Herald attacks have increased since the attack, and that L'Miren's Heralds are now joining the fight. He notes that while Starfleet had elected to reject the Krenim weapon, he fears that recent events will cause Starfleet Command to reevaluate that decision.

• An anonymously-written letter details the fate of an unknown planet under attack by the Heralds.

Tales of the War #16[]

• Working with a Vulcan named Sann, A'dranna runs holodeck simulations on the Krenim weapon. She is preoccupied with the notion of preventing the destruction of Romulus, but has been unable to do so in the simulations. Sann, citing Annorax, speculates it may not be possible.

• Doctor Rhian Cratak and Lieutenant Jhu Terel search a home in a remote settlement on New Romulus for survivors after a Herald abduction raid, though find nothing but an Epohh.

Tales of the War #18[]

• Seven of Nine composes a series of letters to Admiral Kathryn Janeway. The letters chronicle Seven's misgivings about the Krenim timeship project, and her conflicts with the other researchers there, particularly Noye. Her concerns culminate in her decision to leave the project prior to the events of “Butterfly”. She finds out about the failed temporal incursion while on her way back to the Sol System. Janeway's responses to Seven's letters are not included.

Tales of the War #19[]

• Doctor Harza-Kull of the I.K.S. Bortasqu' struggles to keep up with the wounded among the ship's crew during the latest of many engagements with Herald forces.

Tales of the War #20[]

• In a personal log, an unnamed biologist describes a new type of alpha predator hunting wildlife on New Romulus, noting that the Heralds, Elachi, and Solanae all appeared to attack Romulans disproportionately. The author speculates that of all the allied species, the Iconians want to hurt the Romulans, specifically.

Tales of the War #21[]

• Commander Philipa Matthias visits Captain Shon in his ready room. Shon is studying the plans for the final defense of Earth, and Matthias observes that Shon does not agree with the battle plan. Shon states that his true concern is that the war against the Iconians has caused the Resistance to diverge too far from the ideals of the Federation; however, he cannot come up with an alternative plan. The Commander tells Shon she shares his concerns, and encourages him to raise them to the rest of the Resistance. This story serves as a prelude to “Midnight”.

Tales of the War #22[]

• With the assistance of Tom Paris, Captain Kagran composes letters of condolence to the families of fallen Starfleet officers. In doing so, Kagran reflects on the losses sustained during the war.

Tales of the War #23[]

• Sela attempts to escape from Earth unnoticed during the celebrations marking the end of the Iconian War in the aftermath of "Midnight". Using her experience from her time with the Tal Shiar, she is able to discreetly secure a disguise and steal enough valuable goods to negotiate passage off-world onboard Qwen's ship.
