Sign in to Google apps & services in your car

You can safely access your Google Account and apps in your car.

You'll need:

  • An Android phone.
  • A Google Account.
    • Tip: If you use an account through your work, school, or other group, these steps won’t work. If you don’t have your own Google Account, learn how to create one.
  • A car with Google apps and services built in. Learn which cars are compatible.

Important: For your safety, your car must be in park to sign in to your Google Account.

  1. Start your car.
  2. On your car screen, select a Google app, such as Google Maps Post to Google Maps, Google Play Store Google Play, or Google Assistant Assistant.
    • To use Google Maps Post to Google Maps, tap the circle with your account photo or your first initial in the top right corner and then Sign in.
    • To use Google Play Store Google Play, tap Sign in.
    • To use Google Assistant Assistant, tap the circle with your account photo or your first initial in the top right corner and then Sign in.
  3. Scan the QR code which appears on your car screen with your phone:
    • Use a QR code reader or the built-in camera app and focus it on the QR code.
    • At the top of your phone screen, tap the notification.
  4. Select the Google Account you want to use.
  5. Tap Confirm.
Tip: The QR code should automatically scan. If it doesn’t, you can:
  • Make sure the QR code is bright enough to read by turning up the brightness on your car screen.
  • Clean the camera lens on your phone.
  • Keep your phone upright. If your phone is tilted, the camera may not scan the QR code.
  • Find the right distance between your phone and the car screen. Keep the QR code in the camera’s viewfinder, while you:
    • Bring your camera close to the QR code, then slowly move your camera back.
    • Hold your camera about a foot away from the QR code, then slowly move your camera forward.
