Diary of a Future President Cancelled After 2 Seasons at Disney+

Disney+ has cancelled the family comedy after two seasons, series creator Ilana Peña announced on Monday.
“We found out that #DiaryOfAFuturePresident is not moving forward with a Season 3 at Disney+,” Peña wrote on Twitter. “Of course, we would love to continue telling this story, but I am filled with so much gratitude for the two seasons that we did get to make.
“Thank you to our unbelievable cast, incredible crew, and passionate fans that made it possible for us to bring the Cañero-Reed family to life (half of which we did during a global pandemic),” the statement continued. “There’s so much I want to say about how this experience changed me, but Elena would say it better. She said all of it better. I made this show for my younger self, and I hope I made her proud.”
Created by showrunner Peña (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) and loosely inspired by her own adolescence, the coming-of-age series starred Tess Romero as young Elena Cañero-Reed, alongside executive producer Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) who played grown-up Elena and appeared throughout Season 2 and guided her younger self through middle school and towards the White House. Selenis Leyva (Orange Is the New Black) co-starred as Elena’s mother Gabi.
Disney+ previously handed out Season 2 renewals to Big Shot (starring John Stamos and Yvette Nicole Brown), The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers (which recently parted ways with franchise star Emilio Estevez) and The Mysterious Benedict Society (starring Tony Hale), as well as a Season 3 renewal to High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Doogie Kameāloha, M.D. and the Turner & Hooch sequel series remain on the bubble.

Sadly, I heard it was canceled, too. One of the directors/exec producers, Robert Duncan McNeil (aka Tom Paris on Star Trek Voyager), announced T&H’s cancellation on the podcast “The Delta Flyers.”
The first half of the season was rough like so many other series still finding their footing. The second half was genuinely entertaining. My husband, my dog, and I all enjoyed watching every Wednesday evening. Disney made a mistake with this cancellation, IMHO. We’ll miss the show.
Booooo Disney+!!! The one show that showed more Latinos than any other and it’s cancelled. This really bites!
Ok you don’t watch a lot of TV!! We were just joking light skinned women gets way more casting options than a dark female!! Even Netflix favorite formula is plenty of dark men light women!!!

Really upset with disney’s decision. It’s a shame that there is finally a young family show that parents can watch with kids that deals with so much real life things that kids are afraid to talk about. Way to stick to the safe lane. Very disgusted. Hoping someone else picks it up bc there is so much more to this story we want to see!
I honestly think y’all should make a season 3 I don’t think it’s fair to leave viewer on a cliff hanger like that it’s not right I love this show and it’s really can teach kids important life lessons and I don’t think it should be canceled and I am sure there’s people out there that agree with me . I vote for it to continue
I really enjoyed this show and I am sad season 3 will not be shown. It would be nice to know if she won student rep but nope you left use hanging.
I think she tied with the other kid, so they will have to team up. Hopefully someone else picks up the show
Really Disney? Is this because it in powers young girls of all colors because this sounds pretty racist to me. I thought we were moving forward not backward. We need some changes.

Ridiculous!! This is a great family show! Not really sure why this show would get canceled?? There is so much garbage on TV these days! And this was real life lessons and good examples for my children!!! Please reconsider a season 3!!!!
Why did they cancel this show??? The representation was amazing and it was one of the only shows my 13 year old would watch with me!!!! 😭
Very sorry Diary of a Future President isn’t coming back. Season 2 ended on a cliff hanger!
I can’t believe that there won’t be a season 3, I just can’t understand this decision. The show is so relatable, not only for teenagers, but also for adults.
The cast is so great, and the show deals with so many lovable characters.
I would really like to know how the story unfolds!
