Dragon Ball
- KAAA-MEEE-HAAA-MEEE-HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! ExplanationIf you were a kid during the 90s or 2000s (It depends on the country you lived when the series became popular), if you didn't replicate the moves and Large Ham of the series' most iconic attack at the playground a few (MILLION) times, you most probably did see other kids do it.
- "Therefore, every May 9th will be celebrated as Piccolo Day." ExplanationAfter briefly taking over the world in the original Dragon Ball, King Piccolo declares that May 9th will be celebrated as a holiday dedicated to himself which will end with him destroying a city decided in a lottery (the dub changed the date to the 13th). Sites like Tumblr leapt upon this meme with repostings every, you guessed it, May 9th. Ironically, in real life, Japan declared May 9th "Goku Day". The original joke was likely intentional on Toriyama's part as May 9th can be read as Go (5) Ku (9), and shortly after Piccolo declared the holiday, Goku killed him in battle (though this also makes May 9th Piccolo Jr's birthday, so it's still Piccolo Day as well as Goku Day).
- ALL OF THEM?! ExplanationDuring their battle at the tournament near the end of Dragon Ball, Piccolo seemingly kills Goku with a ki blast that tears through Goku's chest...only for Goku to rise, alive and well, and mocks Piccolo for amazingly missing all of his vital organs with that shot. Piccolo responds with a loud and disbelieving "ALL OF THEM?!" Being from 2001, the Funimation dub rendition of this line is noticeably stiff with a fair amount of Dull Surprise; adding onto this is Goku's equally stilted response "yep, every single one," which also gets quoted as part of the meme.
- "This isn't over yet. It'll continue for a bit longer." Explanation Muten Rōshi says this to the readers at the end of the 23rd Tenka'ichi Budokai in the manga. Which then went to run for six more years, whereas its anime got two sequels, several movies, and countless merchandising. So no, it's far from over yet.
Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Z Kai
- Toriyama planned to end it at the ________ arc. ExplanationThe alleged "intended" ending of Dragon Ball Z has become a commonly perpetuated urban legend among Dragon Ball fans.
- "It's OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAAND!" Explanation One of Vegeta's lines from the first dub of Dragon Ball Z, referring to Goku's Power Level after his first return from the dead. Popular for its Narm, and used to describe any situation in which something is unexpectedly large, though it wavers in popularity every few years. It should be noted that the original line was "It's over eight thousand!" (8000以上だ! Hassen ijō da!), which the uncut English dub of Kai leaves unchanged.
- New life was breathed into this after Anonymous got Oprah to say "over 9000 penises" on live TV.
- This is also combined occasionally with Disgaea, thanks to the game actually letting you level up to 9999.
- Even World of Warcraft has gotten in on the act by adding in an achievement called It's Over Nine Thousand! It's not widely known at this point since getting to 9000+ achievement points is easier said than done. However it is in there.
- The King of Fighters eventually caught on as well.
- When the SH Figuarts was announced, a number of American fans suggested that it include a scouter-crushing hand accessory. The distributor, Bluefin, agreed, and the figure will indeed come with it.
- One of the most common instances of vandalism at The Other Wiki is to add Vegeta's line, or some variant or reference thereof, to the article for 9001. Hilariously, they now have an article on the meme.
- Anti-Idle: The Game has several references to the number 9,001; most notably, the original level cap was 9,001, until it was raised to 9,002 in a later update.
- "I hope my body can take it." Explanation The various dubs are absolutely filled to the brim with Accidental Innuendo, and fans love to mock them and/or put them in YouTube Poops.
- "You retard."note Gohan's insult to Buu in the Japanese audio and all versions of the manga, changed in every English dub. An image of Gohan saying it with the appropriate subtitle is a popular reaction image due to a combination of his smug smirk and how bizarrely crude it is for the character.
- "This isn't even my final form!" ExplanationA quote mistakenly attributed to Freeza prior to one of his transformations in the Namek saga. Often accompanies pictures that resemble a disturbing or otherwise bizarre transformation and/or Super Mode of some sort; sometimes used to accompany images of things that resemble Freeza; or implying he had another form as he's not done yet.
- Vegeta is a Fountain of Memes even by the standards of such a memetic series, "Over 9000" is only the most popular.
- "I'M A WARRIOR! Not some... VARIETY OF FLOWER!" ExplanationIn the Funimation dub, he makes this comment about the pink shirt he was forced to wear during the Trunks Saga.
- "THEN THE WHOLE UNIVERSE IS GOING TO DIE!"
- "I AM THE PRINCE OF ALL SAIYANS!"
- Servant woman, bring me a drying cloth!! Explanation While Vegeta is showering, he asks Bulma (servant woman) for a drying cloth. As Bulma is not in any way a servant, she is not pleased with this.
- "SAD FOR YOOOOOOOUUUUUUU!!" Explanation Like "Over 9000", anytime Vegeta inexplicably draws out his vowels (to better match the lip flaps) is about five times more likely to become a meme.
- "You understaaaaaaaaaand?"
- "YOU DO NOT HAVE TRUE PRIIIIIIIIIIDE!!"
- "I do a lot of push-ups and sit-ups. And I drink plenty of juice."
- "Being a hero is highly overrated."
- Vegeta vs. Paperclips
- Holy cosmos that's one whopper of a lizard!
- If Ocean Vegeta wants your opinion, he'll give it to you!
- "Whoa! Mondo cool!" "Yes, that's right boys. Mondo cool." Explanation Krillin's reaction to Goku's healing process in the Saiyan medical machines on Namek is "Whoa! Mondo cool!". The beginning of Vegeta's inner monologue after that line is to say "Yes, that's right boys. Mondo cool." While he's mocking them and it's said in a menacing tone, the ridiculousness of the line puts it in Narm territory.
- This itself is likely a borrowed meme, as it was a catchphrase of the Jaleel White Sonic the Hedgehog, also seen in Archie Sonic.
- Get away from me, Kakarot! I'd rather lose my body than have anything to do with you! Explanation When Goku tries to convince Vegeta to fuse with him, but Vegeta refuses. The "lose my body" part is because Vegeta was dead at the time and only had his body because the gods were letting him use it to fight.
- Vegeta: Father of the Year. ExplanationThe fandom seems split as to this joke. Half say it because they honestly think Vegeta is a good parent. The other half say it because they remember how many times Vegeta almost got Bulma and Trunks killed. It also has some popularity because he, unlike Goku, is actually there for his family, regardless of how good or terrible a father he is.
- "That one was free." ExplanationAfter Imperfect Cell gets a quick shot in at Vegeta, the latter utters this line...as we are treated to a close-up on his smirking lips with a trickle of blood running down from them, which he then wipes off. Many fans have commented on how suggestive this scene is.
- "¡Insecto!" ExplanationCalling his opponents an "insecto" ("insect") basically became Vegeta's Catchphrase in the Latin American Spanish dub.
- "¡Ay! No sólo me robó las células, ¡también mis diálogos!" ("Oi! Not only did he steal my cells, but also my dialogues!").ExplanationContinuing from the above, in one episode of the Cell Saga, Cell told Vegeta, Piccolo and Future Trunks that they were no match for him no matter how much they may have increased their powers, and in the dub calls them "insectos", to which Vegeta answers with that line. In the original anime, that line didn't exist, but Vegeta's Latin American Spanish voice actor René García ad-libbed it.
- "Verme insolente!" Explanation"Insolent worm!" (sometimes just "worm!") is basically the Brazilian dub's equivalent of "Insecto!" above.
- "O miserável é um gênio!" Explanation"The bastard's a genius!" During the Cell Games, Vegeta laments how he trained hard but is unable to catch up to Goku's natural talent as he is now able to effortlessly become a Super Saiyan. This line from the Brazilian dub was quickly appropriated to outside contexts in which problems get solved through ingenuity and outside-the-box thinking.
- Lonely's archives has lead to the rise of new memes for the Dragon Ball community, mostly being about Dragon Ball Z.
- Vegeta's Technique ExplanationDuring Goku's fight with Fat Buu, when Buu fires a volley of blasts at him, Goku exclaims "That's Vegeta's technique!" despite the fact that Vegeta never used any Beam Spam against Buu, at least in the manga. It evolved into a meme thanks to this video parodying the scene by pairing the voice clip with every time Vegeta or any other character uses its attack (the technique is referred to in the games as "Continuous Energy Bullet" or "Full-Power Energy Blast Volley", for the record) and calling it "Vegeta's Technique™", usually with the added joke about its success rate. The joke also exists in Japan, where it's called "王子戦法" (Prince Fighting Style). Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero's opening movie having both Vegeta and Baby Vegeta fighting each other by spamming ki blasts also didn't go unnoticed by fans of this meme.
- Future-Future Trunks Explanation A series of videos in which another Future Trunks (hence the name adding another "future") keeps changing some moments in Z story. He's sometimes portrayed as Goku's guardian angel.
- The Gohan scream Explanation An high pitched scream of Gohan, first heard in this video.
- "Gohan!" "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-" Explanation A sub-category of the above meme, in which Gohan screams at command whenever Piccolo calls him by name.
- Curse of thumb Poseexplanation A meme in which if a character points their thumb at themselves, they will end up at the receiving end of a Curbstomp Battle.
- "Vou te comer."ExplanationThe Brazilian dub's 235th episode title of Dragon Ball Z was very mocked in the country over the years as it sounds like a rape attempt in context. "Vou te comer" is literally "I'll eat you" in Portuguese (which is what Buu does to his victims), but "to eat" is a very common euphemism for forced sexual intercourse in that language. The dramatic reading of the title by the voiceover just made it funnier.
- "Cat loves food, ye-yeah yeah yeah!" ExplanationA line from the original Funimation dub said by Yamcha at the very beginning of the Trunks Saga, saying it was the jingle of an old cat food commercial when Bulma asks him about it. (In the Japanese version, he comments on how peaceful it is right now.) This line is a frequent target of derision for being random, full of narm, and awkwardly out of place.
- Piccolo went from being usually The Stoic who sometimes snarked to quite the memetic snarker in the Latin American Spanish dub of Z, due to his LA voice actor Carlos Segundo's memorable ad-libs:
- "¡Mamá!" ("Mommy!") ExplanationHe shouts this after Raditz fires an attack against him.
- "¿Te digo la verdad o seguimos siendo amigos?" ("Do I tell you the truth or do we keep on being friends?") ExplanationA Running Gag early on during the Buu Saga was that everyone found Gohan's costume as the costumed crimefighter "The Great Saiyaman" atrocious (except Goten, and even he ended up growing tired of it in Super). When Gohan asked Piccolo about it, this was his response in the dub.
- "No me molesten, ¡el que esté verde no significa que no esté maduro!" ("Do not bother me. Just because I'm green does not mean that I'm not ripe!") ExplanationDuring the World Martial Arts Tournament held during the Buu Saga, some tournament organizers noticed him, and noting he was a very tall, green man, asked him about it, and in the dub Piccolo shooed them away with this line.
- "Es un color ecológico." ("It's an ecological color.") ExplanationWhen Piccolo confronted Babidi in the Majin Buu Saga, Babidi also noted that Piccolo was a green man, but he instead joked that it must've been because Piccolo was scared of Majin Buu. This was Piccolo's response.
- ...Imma. Chargin'. Mah. Lazah. Explanation A picture of Semi-Perfect Cell with terribly photoshopped blackface using a Breath Weapon added. Subject to endless copies and parodies.
- "OH SHIT! Explanation A lovely piece of Gratuitous English and Obligatory Swearing that the German dub added to Cell when he faced Vegeta's Final Flash.
- "En ese momento, Cell sintió el verdadero terror." ("At that moment, Cell felt true terror.") ExplanationWhat the narrator in the Latin American Spanish dub says in the closing of the episode in which Super Saiyan 2 Gohan effortlessly shrugs off all of Cell's attacks, scaring him. Usually used alongside any sentence denoting something scary and a screenshot of Cell's Oh, Crap! face, as an equivalent of the "It was at that moment [X] realized, he fucked up" meme.
- "No cabe duda que es un estúpido." ("There's no doubt he's a moron.") ExplanationCell's thoughts at Mr. Satan's attempt to intimidate him by breaking the tiles. Naturally, used when someone does or says something stupid, with a screenshot of Cell's annoyed face.
- "Are they still on Namek?" Explanation The Namek/Frieza arc was dragged out even by DBZ standards. Used to mock any Story Arc that has long worn out its welcome.
- HFIL. Explanation "Home For Infinite Losers", from the Bowdlerization of the dub. Used as an Unusual Euphemism for Hell, such as "What the HFIL?".
- "I'll send you to the next/another dimension!". Explanation The Bowdlerised dub was firmly in Never Say "Die" territory, and its abuse of this phrase and variants similarly led to a lot of jokes at its expense.
- "SA-TAN! SA-TAN! SA-TAN!" Explanation From both the Japanese original and the Latin American Spanish dub, when people cheer for Mr. Satan, they say this. Reactions from astounded English-speaking fans is to generally ask how the hell did they get away with it. It's no wonder Funimation changed his name to Hercule.
- In the manga, this is also all debuting interpserced with the lead up to and merger of Piccolo and Kami, aka God. And there's multiple lines about God and the Devil becoming one, and how Earth doesn't need God right now.
- The "Yamcha pose". ExplanationYamcha dies during the Saiyan Saga after being ambushed by a suicide bomber Saibaman. The fact that Saibamen are among the weakest mooks in DBZ meant that Yamcha quickly gained Memetic Loser status among fans, with his death pose being used to mock anyone else with a similar reputation.
- Yamcha's weakness in general is a meme, period. The man seems to be the Japanese equivalent of Charlie Brown or something. Krillin is given this treatment sometimes as well.
- Team Four Star's even written a song about it to the tune of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" (available for download on their website).
- Then there's Dragon Ball Z Abridged's portrayal of it in their abridged version of the already-abridged Dragon Ball Z Kai: "Yamcha's here!" (Cue explosion) "Yamcha's DEAD!"
- It eventually reached the level of an Ascended Meme.
- "HURRY UP GOKUUUUUU!" Explanation The line Krillin says after Piccolo is killed by Nappa. Because that was basically he (or anyone else) was all good for at this point: Stalling for time until Goku comes.
- "If they set that android free, it will be the end of all of us! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!" Explanation Trunks' hilariously Narmy response to Androids 17 and 18 attempting to release 16.
- "Você não é tão bom assim. É um fracassado." Explanation "You're not that good. You're a loser." A random, narmy line from the Brazilian dub. Sometimes combined with the "Deal with It" gif meme for maximum effect.
- The Ginyu Force pose. If there's a team in a series, someone has drawn them in this pose.
- To be more specific, Ginyu's pose has been mercilessly parodied. Explanation The pose consists of Ginyu sticking his rear out, bent over showing his head between his legs, caused attention like from TeamFourStar.
- Japanese women teach their sons how to masturbate! Explanation One particular Moral Guardian's psychoanalysis of Dragon Ball, combining Freud with plenty of Insane Troll Logic. Except he thought it was Tarzan.
- NEXT TIME, ON DRAGON BALL Z! Explanation The melodramatic voiceover for the On the Next segment in the English dub gets lampooned a lot.
- In the Portuguese dub, when the episode is ending, there's "Não percam o próximo episódio, porque nós TAMBÉM NÃO! YES!" Explanation It means "Don't miss the next episode, because neither will we! YES!".
- Really, the whole dub is endlessly memetic. It's not hard to find clips of a lot the fourth-wall breaking and pop-culture referencing the show does. Like this one. Explanation Reportedly, the script the actors were given very frequently was either too short or had lines missing, leading to the actors ad-libbing a lot. Given how most of them were comedians, well...
- How many actors do you need for a good dub? Ten at the most, apparently.Explanation At any point in the dub's lifetime, there were never more than ten actors on board.
- The Big Green Dub. Explanation The infamous AB Groupe dub has been meme'd to the oblivion due to how much So Bad, It's Good it is. One of such reasons is, of course, giving Piccolo a fully narmtastic name of the eponymous Big Green.
- Big Green had perished. Vegetuh, Yamcha, Tenshin, and Clearin, they had survived. Explanation A blatantly nonsensical "Blind Idiot" Translation at the start of Future Trunks' saga which has Picco- ehm, "Big Green", being killed by the androids, and he is the only one who is confirmed dead, as narrator later mentions that Vegeta, Yamcha, Tien and Krillin had all survived in spite of getting savagely defeated and not showing up alive anymore.
- "We have no choice, Vegetai. You up for this?" - "No".Explanation Another infamous quote from the dub where Goku calls Vegeta "Vege-tai" and the latter responds with a simple blunt "no" to Goku's offer.
- Squidward Tien. Explanation Poor Tien got a short end of the stick in this dub, with him having an overly nasal voice that is suspiciously similar to the one of Squidward Tentacles.
- "I LOVE CORNBREEEEEEAAAAAAAAD!!!!" Explanation Cell's final words before dying to Gohan's Kamehameha. He's actually shouting "I AM PERFEEEEEEEEEEEEECT!!!!", but it ends up sounding like he's shouting about his love of cornbread instead.
- "Thank you Goku I will take this bean without hesitation." Explanation A line from Funimation's Perfect Cell, wherein he accepts a Senzu Bean (which heals all wounds) from Goku. It's the odd way he pronounces it that sells it, which is why it's usually written without punctuation. Ironically, he does take the bean with hesitation.
- ME EAT YOU UP. ME EAT YOU UP. ME EAT YOU UP! ME EAT YOU UP!!! Explanation What Fat Buu chants while dancing towards Dabura with intent of eating him. As silly as it sounds it's actually quite disturbing.
- DRAGON, DRAGON! ROCK THE DRAGON! DRAGON BALL ZEEEEEE!!!!ExplanationThe chorus of Dragon Ball Z's first English dub theme song. The buttrock guitar riff is optional, but still implied.
- I'm just saiyan. Explanation This obvious pun never actually appeared on the show, but is popular enough that it shows up in a lot of fan media such as Dragon Ball Z Abridged.
- Mocking the show's Spoiler Title format, especially when the preview for the next episode is spoiled by the next episode's title. "Frieza Defeated!" is the canonical one.
- Principal Skinner.ExplanationIn the Latin American Spanish dub of the series, many characters, including Nappa, Ginyu Force member Butter, one of Garlic Jr.'s mooks (Vinegar), King Cold, and Android #20/Dr. Gero, among others, are voiced by José Luis Castañeda, who's best known for also being one of the Latin American Spanish dub actors of Principal Skinner in The Simpsons. This has led to many fans to comment on YouTube videos of scenes featuring the characters cited above referring to them as Skinner. Made even funnier by the fact that another Latin American Spanish dub actor of Principal Skinner, Gabriel Pingarrón, went on to dub Dabura.
- "Your father [Bardock] was an average fighter, but a brilliant scientist!" explanationOne of Vegeta's more non-sensical lines from the Ocean dub, claiming that Bardock invented the Power Ball technique that allows Saiyans to become Oozaru under artificial conditions. As portrayed in later movies, Bardock was a ferocious combatant and not particularly bright.
- (A crossover meme with Sailor Moon): ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)explanationAn emote typically posted in response to pictures of DBZ and Sailor Moon figures close by, referencing an infamous fan-made crossover hentai. Also invoked when Bulma's replacement VA was revealed, and she also did the voice of Sailor Mercury in the first Sailor Moon anime, reviving the meme.
- AND THIS IS TO GO EVEN FURTHER BEYOND!! explanationA line from the English dub after Goku first demonstrates his Super Saiyan 1 & 2 states before transforming into Super Saiyan 3 that has become popular to use in Beyond the Impossible situations.
- Sean Schemmel's scream as Goku transforms, which goes on for two and a half minutes, has also seen its fair share of memeage.
- The piano of deathexplanationVegeta's Super Saiyan theme in the Bruce Faulconer score is a piano number, and when it plays, the audience knows that someone is going to be destroyed. It's frequently joked in particular that when it starts up during Vegeta's Final Flash against Cell, Krillin hears it and tells Trunks that it's a sign for them to run.
- What if Peter Kelamis portrayed Goku as Rolf? explanation A simple case of Actor Allusion that has gone on to mingle with other memes, such as having Goku voiced by Rolf when mixed with the "X but with Ed Edd n Eddy sound effects" meme or having Rolf himself be placed on joke tier lists from Super with other meme characters like Gohan Blanco, El Hermano, and Ultra Instinct Shaggy.
- "Let's fight somewhere empty."explanationUsed when Goku requests to fight Vegeta in a desert in their first fight, the quote has been used to show Goku and Vegeta fighting in a variety of places, generally to mock an unpopular site or work. Recently it's been particularly used to take a jab at movies that flop in the box office, showing them fighting inside an empty movie theater projecting said movies.
- Vegeta’s hilarious screaming in the Portuguese dub of Dragon Ball Z, translated as "AIIIIEEEE" by fans.
- Daily Dose/Dr. Piccoloexplanation (NSFW)An infamous pornographic .GIF featuring Piccolo and Vegeta known for being frequently spammed on early 4chan, to the point where users joked about getting their "daily dose" of the .GIF. This led to fanart of Piccolo as a doctor, which would inspire the character of the same name on the SiIvaGunner channel.
- "I'll say this plainly. It's no use. I can't defeat him."explanation Goku says this when explaining to Krillin that he's not strong enough to beat Buu. Fans will often insert other characters that Goku will concede defeat to.
- Funi LeaksexplanationIn August 2019, lewd and homophobic outtakes by the Funimation voice cast recorded in 1999 were leaked.
- "Hey, look at those faggot-ass clothes!"explanationOne of the outtakes has Goku calling Gohan a fag six times. Some fans took pre-existing footage and put Goku saying the slur.
- "Apply the sacred ointment, Popo."explanationAnother outtake has Kami, Piccolo, Yamcha and Mr. Popo using a special lubricant.
- "Is that all you got, FAGGOT?!"explanationA rather infamous edit by the Youtuber Rise, in which case the Next Time On preview for "Duel on a Vanishing Planet! The Final Showdown!" is edited to have Goku saying some of his lines from the Funi Leaks.
- "Is that all you got, Frieza?!"explanationA humorous subversion of the above meme, as people sometimes post the unedited version of the above Next Time On, or a version that adds suspense to what Goku's going to say. Fans have compared watching the influx of these clips and the vulgar clips to playing Russian Roulette on which version a viewer might get.
- But can he beat goku tho?explanationEvery time someone makes a post about a versus in either Facebook or Twitter, someone will almost certainly ask the question about if one of the characters can beat Goku, as most versus involve at least one Dragon Ball character
- "The Horror Won't End"explanationThe Funimation dub title of episode 190, part of the Cell Games arc; the title sees frequent use as a macro on imageboards for undesirable events that keep happening.
- Don’t fuck with Dragon Ball Fans, we haven’t watch the show/can’t readExplanation Used in response to someone invoking a Fandom-Enraging Misconception, accusing them of not engaging with the original source material. Fans use this to accuse each other of only watching Z, only watching the dubbed version, only watching newer content like Super, or only watching Dragon Ball Z Abridged.
- Goku's Racist EvolutionexplanationA video by Arvelonis in which Goku claims he's getting more racist as he changes into more powerful forms. This spread to other characters, such as homophobic Gohan, misogynistic Trunks, and xenophobic Piccolo. It even spreaded to the Devil May Cry fandom.
- First of all, I am Vegeta, Second of all, you’re not Vegeta, Third of all, you wanna be Vegeta, But you can’t be Vegeta because I’m VegetaExplanationA few of Vegeta's lines from verbalase's Shadow vs.Vegeta rap battle, often with the joke being rhyming "Vegeta" with Vegeta", or "Vegeta" being edited out and replaced with something else.
- Prowler GokuExplanationA meme that makes use of Goku's oddly menacing glare on the front cover of Xenoverse 2. Usually these consist of short videos where someone antagonizes Goku in some way, then the video cutting to a very dark low-contrast image of Goku set to Prowler's theme, before cutting to Goku snapping and wiping out his aggressor in some way.
- 164cm 56kgExplanation The height and weight of Vegeta, as well as Astolfo from the Fate Series. The fact that a thin and feminine guy like Astolfo could be the same height and weight as musclebound Vegeta has caused many to joke about it. Some have even joked that Alstolfo's extra weight is concentrated in a specific part of his body.
- Kakarot, the Discord server messages leakedExplanationA comic by GENC____ in which Vegeta tells Goku that their discord messages were leaked, Goku deciding that they need to blow up the Earth. Reanimations of it became popular, using audio from a dub of the comic by EmeraldMasters.
- "You are the scum of the universe, and I am getting sick of it!" Explanation (spoilers) Goku saying this to Frieza while attacking him in the dub has been widely, as fans have posted various edits of Goku saving fictional characters in other manga (such as Goku saving Ai from her stalker, Goku saving the Band of the Hawk from Griffith, or Goku stopping Makima from killing Power) while saying this line.
- "Hey kid, I heard you beat that cancer guy, you must be pretty strong!" Explanation Goku's desire to fight any opponent who he perceives to be strong, combined with his general stupidity, have led to jokes about him mistaking "cancer" for an exceptionally powerful being and trying to deliver a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown on a Make-a-Wish kid that "beat" cancer. Similarly, it's not uncommon for Goku (and sometimes Vegeta) to want to literally fight cancer themselves, typically leading to edits of them without hair. This has since extended to anyone who proclaims themselves as strong for any reason, even if they're defenseless women and children.
- The Mexican Cartel loves Goku. Explanation It's a widely known fact that Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z have achieved Germans Love David Hasselhoff status in Mexico and Latin America. A stereotype of Mexico and Latin America is that they're full of drug pullers and cartels, leading to jokes that they overlap with DBZ's Hispanic fandom
- The age of consent is 18Explanation On Twitter, this is a common reaction image to use when it comes to the "sexual acts in fiction vs reality" arguement, usually about lolis or underage characters
- Goku ShhhhExplanation Like the above example, this is often a reaction image used on Twitter, often when it comes to debates about anime characters and powerscaling.
- Krillin throws a rock at Goku.
- Goku and Vegeta vs Marvel ExplanationAn image of Goku and Vegeta doing a fistbump as they square off against just about the entirety of Marvel's heroes and villains became a popular meme template, usually implying a curb stomp battle or one of the Marvel characters doing something to them. One particular spinoff◊ of the joke is Professor X using his psychic powers to make them kiss—which then led to another variant◊ where Goku and Vegeta start making out, and then Professor X admits they started doing that on their own.
- "They call me The Drink" ExplanationAn endearing Fan Nickname for Trunks created by kobyshinobi to describe his cold drip outfit and Combat Pragmatist style. Has been extended to include other variations, such as Kid Trunks being called The Juice Box, Vegeta being called The Cup, or Frieza acting in disbelief that they call Trunks a beverage of sorts.
- Tien never forgave VegetaExplanationIn the Latin American community it became well-noted that Tien never really forgave Vegeta unlike the rest of the Z-Warriors, most pointedly in the Resurrection F Saga when he sees Goku fighting Vegeta and assumes the latter returned to Frieza's side as his minion out of respect for his power. The community ran with this and made it so Tien is a paranoid warrior who is awaiting Vegeta to betray him and the others at any moment and will claim anything that happens is a ploy of Vegeta to prepare for his betrayal.
- tien edit ExplanationAn edit AMV consisting of fanart depicting Tien training to be equal on Saiyan levels, wielding the Z-Sword, obtaining the Elder Kai power up and squaring up against Super Buu all set to Three Days Grace's "I Hate Everything About You". Many Tien fans has spread this around to turn him into a Memetic Badass. This is often done as a response to the above meme with Tien preparing to face off and kill Vegeta because he thinks he's going to betray everyone again.
- Where's Goku? ExplanationA strange mix of Clickbait Gag and Hidden Object Game—this meme takes an image (usually of another popular show or game), hides Goku somewhere, and places a red circle around an innocuous part of the image to act as a Red Herring (often with a caption saying that the poster "found something" there. As the meme grew in popularity, Goku's hiding places started becoming more and more obscure, turning the meme into a sort of Where's Waldo?—esque game. It also led to red circles in images becoming inextricably linked with Goku, to the point where people are more surprised when he isn't there.
Dragon Ball video games
- "You're going to give me some pleasure right?" ExplanationPerfect Cell's pre-match taunt in the English dub of the 1997 video game Dragon Ball (GT): Final Bout.
- "Okay planet, give me that stupid energy!" Explanation The line said by Cell when he uses his Spirit Bomb ultimate in Budokai 3, which has made way for many jokes about how his Spirit Bomb is powered by the energy of stupidity.
- "Hey! It's me, Goku!"ExplanationOne of Goku's lines in various games, including Budokai and Xenoverse, became popular as a meme because of his loud and enthusiastic delivery. It even became his character tagline for Fortnite upon him joining the game.
- "I'LL CRUSH YOU!!"ExplanationA line that Cooler says in the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series that saw a massive surge in popularity after it was uttered by Turbo Mecha Sonic in Super Mario Bros. Z. While it's more of a Sonic the Hedgehog meme, to the point of being referenced in the official comics, it's still a Dragon Ball quote first.
- "The Big Gete Star enabled me to cheat death! How could this be!?" ExplanationA possible line that Metal Cooler says when defeated in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. The problem is, you often fight many Metal Coolers, so you'll hear this line over and over and over again. Popularized by TeamFourStar during their Let's Play of the game.
- The Masked Saiyan definitely isn't someone named Bardock at all, really.ExplanationThe very fact that it is incredibly obvious who the Masked Saiyan in Xenoverse 2 is but yet, the game pretends the identity to be a complete mystery and expects the player to be all surprised and shocked when he is unmasked. Fans decides to play along with it and jokes that he could be someone else, like Future Goten or an alternate Goku for instance.
- "Time to make the donuts". Explanation An odd pre-match quote Hit does when being selected in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. It's such a bizarre quote for someone like Hit to say that fans, naturally, took out of proportions, to the point people think they are Hit's Trademark Favorite Food (It's actually old slang for "time to go to work," so Hit's saying that his participation is all part of his job). Eventually, Hit said this line in the actual dub for Super (made all the more hilarious when you realize that his dub VA voices a protagonist in another famous Shonen Jump series with its fair share of donut-based memes).
- "This is the Stance!!!" Explanation Yet another Hit quote, this time from Dragon Ball Fighter Z. However, the line is said with such good delivery (courtesy of his new voice actor, Matthew Mercer) that people use it in a more positive light.
- "YOU NEED TO BE STOPPED." ExplanationTrunks says this during his Heat Dome super combo. It's now mostly used as a "No. Just… No" Reaction.
- YEAH! ExplanationAnother Cooler meme, this time from Dragon Ball Fighter Z. When voices are set to English and Cooler uses his Death Flash move, he shouts a battle cry that sounds like "YEAH!" shouted in the tone of an overexcited teenage girl. Andy Chandler is still Cooler's dub VA albeit in a more lighter tone but those more accustomed to his deeper tone from older games found this delivery amazing. Youtubers such as Shoyoumomo have memed the line senseless as a result.
- Cooler with a gun ExplanationYet another Cooler meme. A parody video by FighterZ youtuber Shoyoumomo had a clip of Cooler pointing a gun at Vegeta (in an unintentional second left hand.) This led to a spate of memes of Cooler (either in FighterZ or Xenoverse 2) wielding various amounts of firearms, and even mods of both games that feature a version of Cooler armed to the teeth.
- The Cell Yell ExplanationCell's intro in FighterZ has him yelling as his aura flares up, which became a popular crowd cheer at tournaments as they all yell alongside him. Even the commentators get in on it!
- This video of Goku’s Dragon Ball Fighter Z lobby character dancing.
- "Bring it on, Gohan."ExplanationIn Xenoverse 2, Beast Gohan's special intro against Ultra Instinct Goku features the echo filter on Goku's voice being turned up a little too high. While Gohan sounds natural if gruff, Goku instead sounds like a robot or an Eldritch Abomination. Cue fanart depicting Goku as such.
- "Once I revert to an egg, I must bury myself underground for three years. There my form matures."ExplanationLarval Cell's only taunt in Dragon Ball: The Breakers is his first state's monologue about him reverting to his infantile form. Cell players have had no issue with spamming this one and only taunt against their foes as they move up the food chain. It eventually became his signature quote upon Cell joining Fortnite and is used whenever he returns to the item shop.
- Gen Z KeflaExplanationKefla's new interactions in Xenoverse 2 has many pointing out that she uses Gen Z lingo such as "deadass" or "take an L", leading to utter confusion from the community over who on the localization team approved of those lines. This also sparked discussion over which component is the Gen Z-er, with some jokingly believing it to be Kale.
- Yes, officer, this post right here. Explanation A screenshot from◊ Dragon Ball Fighter Z showing Cooler pointing, edited so he's standing next to a policeman. Used in response to posts that are considered disturbing or disgusting.
- Goku (Mid) ExplanationIn the Budokai Tenkaichi series, characters are often separated into different versions representing their versions from a specific saga. This is usually done by labelling a character as "Character (Early)" or "Character (End)". Goku's Namek Saga variant is labelled "Goku (Mid)" as a result. The late 2010's and early 2020's saw "mid" adopted as slang meaning So Okay, It's Average...which made Goku (Mid) funnier considering he was considered the best version of Goku in Tenkaichi 3 and still highly regarded in Sparking Zero. Cue people ironically calling him Mid as a way to indicate him being the most badass version of Goku by the fandom, even considering him more powerful than Goku from the Cell and Buu Sagas.
Dragon Ball movies
- Let that child alone! Explanation In the AB Groupe dub of "The Tree of Might", Piccolo/Big Green tells Turles to let go of Gohan. Someone even got Chris Sabat to say it.
- Space Warriors Explanation In the Big Green Dub, the Saiyans are often called "Space Warriors". This leads to narmful of dialogue such as Broly being called the "Legendary Warrior of Space".
- Broly (and his movies), for the Japanese fanbase at least, is a goldmine of memes.
- \デデーン/ ExplanationIn the Japanese version, when Broly blows up the slave aliens' planet, there's an out of place dramatic sound effect that plays.
- "10円!!" ExplanationA mishearing of Piccolo's shout while charging towards Broly. Translates to "10 yen". Has became a Fan Nickname for Piccolo in parts of the Japanese fanbase.
- "DOOR!?" ExplanationSimilarly, a mishearing of Paragus' grunt when he gets knocked away by Broly.
- His power is maximum. ExplanationAn 8-year old boy responded to the question "If you were a superhero, who would you be?" by answering with Broly. His reasoning for the choice is "His power is maximum." Made even more funny due to the fact that Broly (at least, the pre-DBS version) was quite clearly a villain, and not a hero.
- Broly CuloExplanationA NSFW piece of art featuring Broly in nothing but his bracers and boots squatting down and showing off his prominently shaped rear. It originated in the Latino fandom and got spread around on sites like Twitter and Reddit, as internet goers found amusement in Broly's assets. It even inspired the Thicc Omni-Man meme in the Invincible (2021) fandom.
- Perished at the hand of my own son! Not that! No, why has destiny conspired against me so tragically?!Explanation The AB Groupe dub version of Paragus' last words before Broly crushes him in the escape pod has been acclaimed for all the wrong reasons due to sounding overly Shakespearean and being spoken extremely fast.
- One of the most memorable moments in any Non-Serial Movie is the point where Super Android 13 hits Goku right in the dragon balls.
- Actually preceded by Return of Cooler where Metal Cooler kicks Vegeta in his; once people realized this, it became just as memetic.
- "Don't you lecture me with your $30 haircut!"ExplanationOne of Super Android 13's most memorable lines in the English dub of his movie.
- "Frieza decided to train for the first time in his life." Explanation The official explanation Frieza gives for his immense power boost in Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' is because he actually decides to train, making him the first villain to unlock his power the old-fashioned way. Made all the more outstanding by the sheer amount of power he gains from it, as he goes from being weaker than a fatigued Super Saiyan to being on par with a Super Saiyan Blue.
- Hhmm, If I don't eat rice, the power won't come! Explanation A line from Speedy's dub of the Return of Cooler.
Dragon Ball GT
- GT stands for "Goku Time". ExplanationA joke spawning from GT's over-focusing on Goku to the detriment of most of the other characters.
- Professor Omega explains the workings of positive and negative energy. Explanation Omega Shenron in general has become a meme in character form in the fandom, due to his incredibly overacted lines and the general ridiculousness of his existence, alongside his constant need to mention the power of NNNNNEGATIVE ENERGY.
- "Old Man Krillin is unbeatable." Explanation The fact that an elderly Krillin was able to land a hit on Goku during their friendly fight at the end of Dragon Ball GT (Goku was obviously not fighting at full power) has prompted a meme that Old Man Krillin is a Memetic Badass who could beat anyone with ease.
- Vegeta's mustache. ExplanationThe series early on gave Vegeta a mustache, which was quickly shaved off. Helped by dub actor Christopher Sabat choosing to pronounce it as "moo-stache", which many found extremely amusing coming from Vegeta, leading to Dragon Ball Z Abridged having Vegeta pronounce it that way too, and even a Voice Clip Song.
- Nobody can beat him when he's Super 17! ExplanationThe Super 17 Arc has as its main antagonist Super 17, a fusion between a brainwashed Android 17 and a Machine Mutant clone of him, Hell Fighter 17, created through the joint effort of Dr. Gero and Dr. Myuu. They then proceed to boast nonstop about how this fusion is unstoppable, which fans took and ran with.
- Reject godhood, return to monke. ExplanationWith the emergence of Super Saiyan Blue from Dragon Ball Super, there's somewhat of a split in the fanbase over the better transformation; Super Saiyan 4 or Super Saiyan Blue, for a variety of reasons. The meme is used when praising Super Saiyan 4 over Super Saiyan Blue. And the name itself can trace its origins back to "Reject humanity, return to monke", a desire to reject modern humanity and return to base primates.
Dragon Ball Super
General
- The Goku and Vegeta Show ExplanationA tongue-in-cheek nickname for Super's overt focus on the two characters in question.
- Gohan is the Saiyan Yamcha. ExplanationThe fandom's bitterness over Gohan's Badass Decay and the way he was treated in the Resurrection 'F' Saga and being left out of the Universe 7 team in the Champa Saga. The comparison to Yamcha is because Yamcha himself is the biggest Memetic Loser in the series since he was killed by a Saibaman.
- Is Broly back? Explanation Early in Super's run, Broly was a very requested character for the western fandom to be brought into Super since HIS POWER WAS MAXIMUM. It has become an inside joke within the fandom to ask if or say that any new character is Broly. In other words, "wen broli?" Became Hilarious in Hindsight when Kale was introduced in the Universal Survival saga, and then even more so when Dragon Ball Super: Broly was announced.
- Now we know where the budget for Episode 5 went.ExplanationWhenever there is an episode with really good animation, several fans will joke that the budget for those episodes came from Episode 5, which was notoriously Off-Model before being fixed on DVD.
- 4chan's /a/ board, particularly their /dbs/ (Dragon Ball Super general) threads, have produced many, some of which are detailed here. The memes got complex enough to get their own wikis.
- "X-sama... I kneel."note An image of a kneeling Vegeta is posted or traced with other characters to show them as submissive to a greater authority. Often used when someone admits they were wrong about something.
- Enter CHADREN.note Jiren's Memetic Badass reputation on the board, originally ironic because he was thought to be a Flat Character, was memed so hard that it turned into over-the-top devotion to "GODREN" and his "philosophy." There are many copypastas associated with the character, which are reposted or modified for different scenarios by self-proclaimed Jirenscholars.
- Toeipedros vs. Toyotards.note Derogatory terms for both sides of the fandom debate about which version of Super is better, the anime (Toei) or the manga (Toyotaro). A 4chan nickname ending "tard" has an obvious meaning, but Toei's nickname ends in "pedros" because fans of Toyotaro's manga contend that Toei has nonsensical and fan fiction-worthy filler that's only popular in the Latin American market. Countless copypastas and macros have been produced in this "war."
- Ningen / Zamasuposting. ExplanationThe word "ningen", literally meaning human/person, was used heavily in the Future Trunks arc of Super to refer to anyone that wasn't a god, particularly by Zamasu. There was some contention whether to translate the term as "human" or "mortal", seeing as aliens aren't quite "human" and gods in Dragon Ball are not immortal. As a result, many fans simply use the word "ningen" either for simplicity for because it's funnier on account of how often Zamasu used it. Compilations of Zamasu and/or Black using the word "ningen" are also common.
- ZAMASU! Explanation A meme that starting to gain traction after Zamasu started to show more hatred towards mortals, causing Gowasu to sternly shout "ZAMASU!" Started picking up traction on 4chan's Anime and Manga board.
- Gohan Blanco. ExplanationOn 4chan, due to a derail in the threads, the users started to joke about Gohan obtaining a unique form of Super Saiyan with white hair due to "Angelic ki" (supposedly stronger than Godly ki, according to the "theory"). This, in turn, lead to a mockery of the Spanish-speaking community fanbase which tends to create fan theories that range on the absurd, and are often accused of "Gohan-Worship", which is to say, delving into Fan Wank levels of making Gohan seem more powerful and important than he actually is. Now there are fans making parodies of those absurd fan-theories with the Super Saiyan White Gohan defeating Jiren and the Grand Priest (or as he is called, "El Grande Padre", with some broken Spanish added to the mix). Considering that Gohan was the first of the Universe 7 members to get eliminated in the final showdown between Universe 11, and a form with white hair ended up being given to Goku as Mastered Ultra Instinct rather than to him, people are mocking this meme to merciless levels now.
- GOKU BLANCO. ExplanationAdvertising in Japan spoiled the revealed look of Goku's Mastered Ultra Instinct, which as it turns out gives him white hair. The Dragon Ball community went absolutely mad with the sheer coincidental comparison to the Gohan Blanco meme that was rampant not too long ago.
- GOHAN BLANCO. Explanation Becomes even more Hilarious in Hindsight after Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, where Gohan gains a new white haired formed that makes him much more powerful.
- El Hermano de Jiren Explanation Spanish for "Jiren's brother". Usually shortened to just "El Hermano" (the brother). A teaser for a new line of Dragon Ball Super figures included one silhouetted "mystery figure" that didn't appear at that point of the series yet. Even though the silhouette was said to be just a placeholder that does not represent how the new character looks, since it looked a bit like Jiren one Latin American YouTuber, in an effort to create clickbait content, speculated that it will be Jiren's brother, which he represented as a Palette Swap of Jiren aside from his larger head. In response, the community at large took the character as a means for shitposting, alongside "Gohan Blanco" memes. The "mystery figure" was eventually revealed to be Kefla, but by that point the meme already caught on. When Jiren's backstory was revealed, making him somewhat similar to Sasuke Uchiha, people then made El Hermano an Itachi Uchiha parody in response. The character's meme status was such that versus videos and video game mods were created in response.
- YabbapostingExplanation (NSFW)A running joke on /dbs/ where one posts a picture◊ of Krillin kneeling on the ground with his jaw on the floor alongside text narrating Krillin reacting to various outlandish and bizarre situations, all of which invariably involve other men having sexual relations with Android 18. And then at the end Krillin yells "Yabba Dabba Doo!" to show his approval.
- Oh no no no __bros, don't look! Explanation A slanderous meme that often gets used whenever a past embarrassing showing of a character gets posted, whether real or imagined. Most famously used in reference to Vegeta's beatdown by Final Form Frieza.
- Bejita Explanation Vegeta is the unoffical punching bag of /dbs/ because the idea of him being made fun of is extremely funny to some people. Bejitaposting is the culmination of years of jokes made at his expense while Super was airing and takes various forms. There's jokes about God of Destruction Vegeta, Super Saiyan Blue Level 2 Vegeta, cuckold Vegeta, Jobgeta, Vegeta Calvo, and even Gigeta which is a crossover ship with Bleach featuring Sternritter Z, Giselle Gewelle
- "What If?" YouTubersexplanationHave become mocked by some fans, often making fun of the absurd premises, titles being in all caps, and many parts.
- What if X was TRAPPED in the Y and BETRAYED?explanationThe most commonly memed type of what if, usually involving Goku being imprisoned in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for an incredibly long period of time, before escaping and taking revenge on whoever trapped him there. The basic structure of the title has been used to make fun of similarly absurd premises, even for franchises besides Dragon Ball.
- This piece of fanart by DEMONAnelot has been used as a reaction to suggestive images.
- No one hates Gohan more than Gohan "fans"ExplanationPlenty of fans in the Dragon Ball fandom have taken notice of the bizarre amounts of fan works that make Gohan outright suffer (Usually by having Pan or Videl murdered right in front of him) in order to give him a rage boost to make him do some sort of transformation just to invoke nostalgia for his Super Saiyan 2 transformation. As a result, these sorts of fanworks would be mocked for having either zero understanding of Gohan's modern character, or just being as blatantly bleak towards Gohan as possible for the sake of some cool moment.
- Gohan genuinely tweakingExplanationCourtesy of the video "Dragonball Super: Super Hero Fan Animation Part 1" fan animation, Gohan's pure rage-driven growling reaction to Cell murdering Pan in front of him before transforming into Super Saiyan 4 out of pure rage has been turned into a memetic reaction post.
- "ok i wont"ExplanationA popular edit of a fan-made comic "Dragon Ball Rage", in which Cell murders baby Pan right in front of a pleading Gohan, where Cell simply says the aforementioned quote and doesn't kill Pan. Typically used as a meme to mock those that want Gohan to be tortured in order to do a transformation of some sort.
- Base Form Cabba vs Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta ExplanationPowerscaling between Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball Super is a notoriously fraught affair, since the two shows are not canon to each other yet both present their characters as massively stronger than those in the original manga. At some point, it became a common way to joke about it by noting that Cabba, a relatively unimportant and physically unintimidating character from Super, is about as strong as Vegeta after the latter absorbed god ki, meaning he has to logically scale to be far stronger than any character in Z, and if you accept the idea that GT characters aren't that much stronger than Z characters, he should be stronger than them as well. Because of this, people began pitting Cabba in his base form against Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta, a character who had previously been viewed as the unquestioned apex of power in the franchise, and showing Cabba one-sidedly dominating him (mainly as a way to troll fans of GT, who practically worship Gogeta). This evolved into the idea that Base Cabba is the strongest character in the whole franchise, depicting him as a One-Man Army on par with Broly, and got a big push when Sparking Zero came out and made the two characters playable, allowing fans to finally enact the "dream match."
Battle of Gods Saga memes
- This still of Goku◊ has been making the rounds lately. It's not actually Off-Model, being an in-between frame designed to make the animation look more fluid, a common technique in Western Animation. Here it is in gif form◊. Subverted after it was revealed that it came from Episode 5, which upon release became infamous for being absolutely Off-Model in many scenes.
- Yeah, sure. Let's go see Yamcha. ExplanationIn a case of Woolseyism in the Funimation dub, during Bulma's Birthday party when she is trying to coax Vegeta into socializing with everyone else, Vegeta scoffs this as a retort. The fact that he singled out Yamcha for ridicule did not get missed by fans. Ended up becoming acknowledged because not only did Funimation tweet about it during the Toonami Broadcast, but Toonami used the line as the episode bumper and in the preview promo for the following episode. It also makes Vegeta look a bit like a Crazy Jealous Guy in retrospect after his reaction to Beerus hurting her, since Yamcha is Bulma's ex.
- "Beerus eat a Snickers"ExplanationThe "eat a Snickers" meme reached the Dragon Ball fandom as well, after Beerus was shown blowing up planets whenever he's not satisfied with a meal.
- "Yamcha, no!" or "It's Yamcha's fault if the world's destroyed"ExplanationIn response to the preview clip in Super where Yamcha gives Beerus a good-natured slap on the back and seems to accidentally set him off. Turns out the preview showed the events out of order; just as it was in the movie, Buu pissed off Beerus by not sharing pudding. Hilarious in Hindsight as Yamcha actually sets off Beerus in a later episode for blurting out the secret about Monaka in front of Goku.
- Vegeta cooking for Beerus in Super sparks some jokes from Jump Fans by renaming it "Shokugeki no Vegeta".
- "Broly Cameo!" ExplanationWhen Vegeta initially went Super Saiyan after Bulma was struck, his eyes were pure white like Broly's.
- Super Saiyan Please? ExplanationIn another case of Woolseyism, Goku used this phase when pleading Beerus to stop destroying the Earth, and give more time to Goku to find out about the Super Saiyan God. It was also Sean's delivery that sold it.
- WHAAAAAAAAT? ExplanationFrom the Bang Zoom! Entertainment dub of the anime. Goku, voiced by Lex Lang, has an awkward, narm-tastic inflection, so when he fought Beerus, Bad "Bad Acting" ensued.
Resurrection 'F' Saga memes
- Whooooo-iforgotmytractor-ooooooaaaa-thathurt! ExplanationIn another case of Woolseyism in the dub. Goku, who was pretending to oversell a Megaton Punch from Mr. Satan, forgot to carry his tractor as he was flying away, so he doubled back for it.
Champa Saga memes
- Goku and Vegeta with full on beards◊ was quite popular among the fandom to the point that some wished Goku kept it.
- "We are the evil Universe!"Explanation When Universe 6 was shown to be a "twin" of Universe 7 (the "home" universe for the heroes), this combined with the fact that both the Saiyans and Freeza's counterpart in Universe 6 are benevolent, heroic characters, the joke came to be that obviously THIS universe is the Evil Counterpart of the two. Died down when Freeza's counterpart turned out to be not be very heroic, setting up the invasions that he stops so he gets power and fortune, and the universes not being strictly moral mirrors of each other. This meme later came back due to the Tournament of Power, with everyone hating Universe 7 due to Goku reminding Zeno about it.
- KONO HIT DA!!! ExplanationBecause of Hit's ability to use Time Skip that makes it seems like he's freezing time, fans are already calling him the Dio of the series (minus Large Ham). It doesn't help that Hit tells a mob boss that his resistance is "Useless" (Muda).
- Goku is faster than time! Explanation The fandom's reaction after Goku out-speeds Hit, who froze him in time, while using his Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan/Kaio-Ken combo.
- Popo is Zeno's dad. ExplanationThanks to TeamFourStar making Mr. Popo a Memetic Badass and a Memetic Psychopath, people have joked that Mr. Popo is the father of Zeno and the one person above him. This scene really cemented this view with the Zeno's gaining Popo eyes.
- He is speaking the language of gods. ExplanationVegeta says this after Super Shenron speaks in a divine language. This is often used in response to something in Engrish, another language, typos, or something hard to understand. Can also be used when someone says something appealing.
Potaufeu Saga memes
- Vegeta chewing on a pacifier. ExplanationAfter Vegeta has his essence drained by the Commeson and is beginning to fade, he's given the Commeson key to chew on to buy him some time. It coincidentally looks identical to a baby's pacifier, which Vegeta later sees Baby Pan sucking on.
Future Trunks Saga memes
- Future Trunks is suffering. Explanation Future Trunks was already the biggest Woobie in the franchise. Having him return because a new evil wrecked his world and killed his loved ones had the fandom wanting to give Trunks a hug. And things do not get better for Trunks by the end of the saga.
- Future Trunks with blue hair dye! ExplanationAfter Future Trunks debuted with blue hair (most likely to distinguish him from the main timeline's Trunks) and was seen holding a canister of blue liquid (actually fuel for the time machine), it didn't take long for fans to make the connection.
- Super Saiyan Power Rangers! Explanation With the confirmation that Black's Super Saiyan form is called Super Saiyan Rose, which made his hair pink, fans have jokingly and mockingly compared the Super Saiyan transformations to Power Rangers: with Super Saiyan being yellow, Super Saiyan God being red, Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan being blue, Broly's Legendary Super Saiyan being green, Ultimate Gohan being black, and Baby Vegeta being white.
- Gowasu the GodTuber ExplanationAfter the revelation that Gowasu watches a YouTube analogue called GodTube, and even jokes about becoming a "GodTuber", it has become an ongoing joke that the reason why Gowasu doesn't notice the evil growing in Zamasu's heart is because he's too busy posting GodTube comments. Gowasu posting GodTube videos with clickbait titles is also common. This branches into another meme that all Whis' images on his staff are actually GodTube videos, like Goku turning into a Super Saiyan against Frieza, and the entire tournament between U6 and U7 was live streamed by Vados and him. Related to that, it has become popular to post images of Gowasu watching television with photoshop pictures and gifs, like him watching Dragonball Evolution or Zamasu being killed by Beerus.
- With the revelation in the Tournament of Power that there's a GodPad, there have been all sorts of God websites, apps, and devices that the fandom have come up with.
- Turles is now canon! Explanation Initial reactions to Goku Black being revealed included comparisons to the original Evil Goku, Turles, an inexplicable doppelganger. Some went as far to say they expected Goku Black to have a similar backstory, being a Goku from a timeline where he did not hit his head in his timeline and never lost his inherent Saiyan violence.
- Everyone referring to Goku Black as "that Black guy" has led to a lot of jokes about how Earth's mightiest heroes are racist.
- Trunks stopping the soldiers from shooting Goku in the dub with "Hold your fire! This man isn't Black!" became one because of how completely off it sounds out of context. Not helping the fact the episode aired around the time the Black Lives Matter protests were starting to gain traction.
- Goten is Black.Explanation Because of Goku Black's slimmer build compared to Goku, fans thought it was possible that Black was an adult Goten, and it quickly became an extremely pervasive fan theory. Some enjoyed the theory for it being ironic that an evil Goten would torture Future Trunks, while present Goten and Trunks are best friends. Many others thought the idea was dumb because it made very little sense. Even after the reveal of Black's identity, "Goten is Black" is asserted as truth by people having a laugh, whether or not the conversation was about Black.
- West Supreme Kai is Goku Black. Explanation An in-joke that started to gain track on 4chan, where Goku Black, instead of being Zamasu, is the Supreme Kai of the West that was killed by Majin Buu, coming back for revenge. Based on her AF version by Toyotaro, the meme involves photoshopping pictures to make it look like he is the deceased Supreme Kai, and probably to make the awkward interactions with Zamasu even funnier.
- SUBARASHII! Explanation A word Goku Black often uses, which translates to "magnificent".
- Hakai!Explanation When Beerus uses this technique to annihilate Zamasu, fans made jokes about Beerus using a Ctrl+Alt+Del command or variants, such as Crtl+Z, Alt-F4, etc as a Deadly Euphemism.
- Goku is a lip virgin. Explanation After witnessing Future Trunks give Future Mai a senzu bean through his lips Goku implies that he never kissed Chi Chi on the lips despite being married for decades and having two children.
- The Evilest Bro-hug in the Universe. Explanation The justice hug between Black and Zamasu. In a pretty emotional episode for the heroes, this flashback of Black and Zamasu hugging after meeting for the first time caught many by surprise. A lot of fans started to joke about the scene with many touching on how creepy and hilarious it is.
- "Vegeta-sama! That's why!" Explanation Adding onto Vegeta's "Prince of all Saiyans" meme, he stated this line when explaining why he was stronger than Goku Black, which became a hit among Vegeta fans.
- SON! GOKU!! Explanation Fusion Zamasu's completely over the top scream after Goku used the Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan/Kaioken combo to break his halo. It is also considered great vocal work for Shin-ichiro Miki and is the measuring stick used for anyone playing Zamasu in the dub. The line in the dub, while not as memetic, is still considered great performance wise at least.
- YOU AGAIN TRUNKS!!? Explanation For much the same reason as the "SON GOKU" meme. Fusion Zamasu losing it when Future Trunks interferes, yet again, with him killing Goku and Vegeta.
- "PRAISE AND ADORE HIM!" Explanation The title of the debut episode of Fusion Zamasu is popular in some circles, with people using the quote with other characters such as Vegito, Arale, or Yamcha (especially so after his "Yamcha Is Number One" mission and the baseball episode where he won the game).
- Zamasu did nothing wrong! ExplanationA tongue-in-cheek joke about how Zamasu wasn't wrong about wanting to destroy mortals because they're terrible. This meme has gotten a lot of use during the Universal Survival Saga with fans calling Goku the villain of the arc since he reminded Zen'o of the tournament that would lead to seven universes being erased.
- Deleto/Deleto Blue◊ ExplanationThe bastard child of "Delet this" and Vegito. It's become popular to photoshop images of Vegito so that he's holding a gun, and posting it in response to whenever someone posts something "cursed" on Twitter, Discord, so on and so forth. He's become popular enough to warrant videos and mods featuring him, too.
- "The world is beautiful! But the ugliness of mortals soils that beauty." ExplanationZamasu's views on humanity are often a good source of meme fuel. It's not uncommon to find Zamasu reacting to a less than ideal sight or event and declaring that humans have once again tarnished something beautiful.
- Zamasu needs to learn from Super Buu. ExplanationWhile terrifying, Zamasu's "Zero Mortals Plan" has the hiccup of not killing every mortal on Earth alone by the time Future Trunks kills him. He spends the entire arc trying to wipe out the human resistance which only succeeds at the very end due to becoming a universal abstract. Because of this ineffectiveness, Super Buu's Human Extinction Attack, in where he actually succeeds in killing everyone on Earth in a couple of minutes except for the Z-fighters and Hercule, has the audience ask Zamasu to take notes on how it is properly done.
Universe Survival Saga memes
- FEMBROLY!!! ExplanationThe first trailer for Universal Survival Saga showcases the originally unknown Kale, a female Universe 6 Saiyan who transforms into a Legendary Super Saiyan like form, making her appear as a clear gender-flipped Broly.
- Goku's the villain! ExplanationGoku reminded Zen'o of the multiverse tournament he promised back in the Champa Saga, and he did this despite Beerus and Whis warning him not to get involved with Zen'o anymore. This has fans both teasingly and seriously calling Goku a "villain" because the universes that lose the Tournament of Power will be erased. It's through sheer dumb luck that Zen'o was actually planning on eventually erasing the 8 universes fighting in the tournament anyway, on account of their "Mortal Levels" being very unsatisfactory. Also fueling this meme is the original Sun Wukong's disposition and the ending of Episode 81 framing Goku as very antagonistic towards the Gods, which is making all of them see him as the villain of the story in-universe.
- Android 17 ranging the hell out of that park. ExplanationAfter Akira Toriyama confirmed that 17 became a park ranger after the Cell Games, TeamFourStar went with this, and the fans quoted this line after seeing him in the Buu Saga. It went full circle when 18 told Goku and Gohan that 17 became a park ranger, with a shot of him overlooking the wildlife preserve while quoting said line.
- Android 17 reached godhood by fighting poachers. Explanation Often used by detractors of Android 17 to mock how he was able to become strong enough to fight Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku. Taken even farther when Dragon Ball Fighter Z made "Hunts Poachers" one of the Android 17 nameplates you can use.
- Make Gohan Great Again! Explanation With Gohan seemingly playing a major role in the Universal Survival Saga and getting back his Ultimate form, fans are hopeful that Gohan will finally shake off his Badass Decay.
- Tails, God of Destruction ExplanationLiquiir, the God of Destruction of Universe 8 is an anthropomorphic fox with multiple tails. Due to his fur having a familiar color, many people joked about Liquiir being Tails all grown up and fully independent from Sonic. It was also humorously pointed out by MasakoX of TeamFourStar in this Tweet and led to this fanart.
- KALE IS SUPER SAND LESBIAN! ExplanationDue to the interactions of Kale and Caulifla in Episode 93, particularly Kale's, plenty of people have been referring to Kale as the Super Sand Lesbian, thanks to this masterpiece.
- Princess Cabba... ExplanationAnother Broly-related TeamFourStar reference arose upon the sudden reveal of SSJB Kale's psychotic obsession with taking down Cabba.
Kale: Princess Cabba...
Cabba: Please, no...
Kale: You lied to me/You took Caulifla away from me...
Cabba: I did no such thing!
Kale: You dirty boy.
BeatCabba (panicking): Caulifla, get me off this planet right now, I'm serious!
Instant Transmission! - Tingly back ExplanationWhen Cabba explains how he turned Super Saiyan, he describes it as a "tingly sensation" in the back. This was quickly seized upon by fans to mock the Uniqueness Decay that the Super Saiyan power had suffered.
- Teleports behind you / Get LostExplanationWhen Goku tried to introduce himself to Jiren, he quickly teleported behind him and told him to get lost. Due to the popularity of both the "Teleporting Behind You Meme" and "nothin personnel kid", this immediately got memed when people saw this line.
- If X achieves Y, I'm done with Z! Explanation After some episode previews suggested that Caulifla wanted to learn Super Saiyan Blue from Goku, some fans immediately called foul and complained that this would cause Uniqueness Decay for the form, stating that "If Caulifla achieves Super Saiyan Blue, I'm quitting Super". Needless to say, this overblown reaction quickly got mocked endlessly, with people claiming that if a certain character (X) achieved a certain form (Y), they would quit watching a series (Z). Bear in mind that X, Y and Z do not have to be related to each other or Dragon Ball, resulting in such quotes as "If Spider-Man reaches his perfect form, I'm quitting Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", etc.
- Mentor/Mentee Christmas Saving Wave of Love! ExplanationAfter Caulifla and Kale pull off a Combined Energy Wave to overpower General Kahseral's squadron of teammates, some fans have pointed out how visually similar Caulifla's red Full Power Energy Wave wrapping around Kale's large, green version is to a candy cane. As a result, it leads to another Dragon Ball Abridged reference involving Goku fighting against Lord Slug, empowered by the belief that he's saving Christmas.
- This is the true power of the No Fap! Explanation On 4chan and other imageboards, the "No Fap" is an event where the users avoid masturbating. A lot of people on 4chan started to joke that Roshi "training with Puar" to avoid his "carnal feelings" during the Tournament of Power was this.
- Tien is the new Yamcha. ExplanationFollowing his elimination in the Universal Tournament this opinion has been rapidly growing, especially due to the lack of fanfare compared to Krillin's sudden ring out. Further exemplified by this video.
- One-Punch Jiren ExplanationAfter Jiren's awe-inspiring punch to Maji Kayo in episode 107, people have taken to compare him to another guy known for ludicrously powerful fists.
- Dr. Rota is called a doctor because... ExplanationOn online forums it has become common to mimic Dr. Rota's only gag about not being able to finish his sentence before being attacked by stronger opponents.
- Hit's gonna do his job!◊ Explanation A play on words of Hit's resolve against Jiren. Throughout the episode "Hit vs. Jiren", Hit repeats his settlement that it's his duty to take care of Jiren no matter what happens, even if it costs him, to buy his remaining teammates any advantage. His usage of "job" could easily be swapped for the wrestling term, making a hilarious connection that Hit's aware that he'll have to fall in order to make Jiren look more dangerous than before.
- Jiren glaring at things. Explanation Jiren's recurring tendency to be able to No-Sell things (Spirit Bomb, Hit's Time Erasure) or repel opponents (Rabanra, Goku, Hit) that seem otherwise impossible to survive by glaring at them. Fans in some circles (particularly among the VS Battles community) have turned his stare into a Memetic Badass, implying that he can beat anyone or negate any attack by looking pissed enough.
- Jiren Facts. Explanation Further contributing to Jiren's Memetic Badass status, fans tend to exaggerate his power to being able to achieve feats that are deemed impossible, essentially making him the Chuck Norris of the Dragon Ball franchise.
- "X" is still in the tournament; that's just their clone in the stands! ExplanationFollowing the ring outs of Tien and Hit, users known for creating pseudo-clones as one of their techniques, some fans made theories attempting to rationalize a last-minute reveal that both users managed to fool the audience and their opponents with bait and switch. Realizing its ludicrous nature, other fans decided to poke fun by escalating existing theories or applying it to other fallen characters jokingly.
- "It's neat, so it's safe". Explanation Despite the Tournament of Power having rules against the use of objects, the Zen'os have been pretty lighthearted with this rule, allowing some of the participants to wield weapons (like Universe 3 fighters), or Roshi's equipment with the Evil Containment Wave, or hell, allowing Caulifla and Kale to do a Potara freaking Fusion, which requires the Supreme Kai earrings, has lead to some fans to simply use Zen'o's statement as a way to ignore the rules of the Tournament in general.
- Ultra Instinct "X" ExplanationAfter Goku achieved his Ultra Instinct form in the Wham Episode two-parter of episode 109 & 110, it's become common to edit certain scenes where characters from other franchises demonstrate slow-mo dodging while also looking awesome to be accompanied by the song that accompanied Goku.
- Ultra Instinct Shaggy ExplanationThe most popular Ultra Instinct meme variation is of Shaggy Rogers from Scooby-Doo!, remixing his fight scene from Scooby-Doo! Legend of the Phantosaur with DBS music and effects. Ultra Instinct Shaggy got a ton of fanart, is often lumped together with other meme characters like Gohan Blanco and El Hermano, and is a main character in the fan series Dragon Ball X.
- Ultra Instinct Roshi ExplanationWhen Chapter 39 of the Super manga was released, it featured Roshi effortlessly dodging punches from Jiren, the absurdity of which lead to jokes about him achieving Ultra Instinct and being the one to defeat Jiren.
- Autonomous Ultra Instinct ExplanationIn order for the English dub to match the lip flaps of "Migatte no Gokui", characters would usually refer to it as "Autonomous Ultra Instinct". Certain fans found this addition rather silly, as they did the idea of Goku (and/or Zeno) somehow being able to pronounce "autonomous".
- Goku DripExplanationA picture◊ of Goku wearing "hypebeast" clothes has become popular due its absurdity. Often paired with the first note of the Ultra Instinct theme as a Jump Scare.
- Bouncing CauliflaExplanationDuring the battle between Goku, Caulifla and Kale, there's one part when Caulifla is prepared to attack Goku and Caulifla does a fighting pose, which many people were quick to point out caused some breast bounce on Caulifla.
- Ribrianne outlasted X! ExplanationMany people didn't like Ribrianne, so once she was taken out, a lot of people realized that she outlasted many powerful fighters (with more potential), like a lot of Universe 6's warriors (in particular, Hit, Caulifla, Kale, and the fusion of the latter two, Kefla). Becomes even more hilarious when you realize that more than half of the fighters from Universe 3 have even outlasted Ribrianne. In the manga, it's even more hilarious, as Hit's battle against Jiren happens right after Universe 9 gets erased as opposed to in the middle of the Tournament of Power, therefore, Hit happened to get outlasted not only by Ribrianne, but also by eight members of Universe 10, a lot of Universe 4 fighters (Hit outlasted Monna in the manga, while in the anime, it was the opposite), Botamo, Magetta, and Roshi. One chapter later, and Ribrianne and her Maiden Squadron get outlasted by SEVEN members of Universe 3.
- Vegeta getting pushed off the arena ExplanationIn the preview of Episode 119, which involves Universe 4's final warriors using stealth against Universe 7, we see a shot of Vegeta seemingly getting pushed off the arena by Gamisaras. Needless to say, there have been memes mocking Vegeta for jobbing against Gamisaras and Damon. Ultimately, in the episode proper, Vegeta grabs onto the arena border to avoid being eliminated, while it is Piccolo who is eliminated later by the stealthy warriors.
- Android 17, MVP for Universe 7 in the Tournament of Power. Most Assists. ExplanationBy the time the Tournament of Power was reaching its end, it was noted how Android 17 had an overall outstanding performance through the tournament, including becoming one of the final four warriors of Universe 7, outlasting the likes of Piccolo and Gohan, which was made all the more surprising considering that he was pretty much Put on a Bus once the arc that introduced him ended, and before Super only made one brief return in GT in a pretty minor role as a Brainwashed and Crazy Unwitting Pawn of the villains. As such, this led fans to jokingly grant him many sports accolades, and also led to many tributes when he ended up sacrificing himself to save Universe 7's team... And it turns out he was still alive and in the game even after said sacrifice, being one of the last few characters in the tournament and stalling Jiren despite all the damage he'd already taken after Goku's Ultra Instinct starts to take its toll on his body. Finally, he ends up not only being the sole survivor of the Tournament of Power, but also performs the selfless deed of using his wish to bring back all of the fallen universes. At this point, 17 has more than reached Memetic Badass status in the fandom.
- Give that man a boat! ExplanationWhen questioned by Goku about what he would use the Dragon Balls to wish for, 17 simply answered that he wants a boat that he can sail on with his family. That coupled with many of the fandom referring to him as the MVP of Universe 7 has led to this being the rallying cry every time 17 pulls off a Big Damn Heroes moment. And then he became the winner of the Tournament of Power, using his wish to revive all of the erased universes. And when we last see him at the end of the saga, he gets that boat. Needless to say, he deserved it.
- OHOHOHO INTENSIFIES! ExplanationFrieza's tendency to announce his presence with his signature Noblewoman's Laugh throughout the tournament, coupled with his repeated shit-heel actions made this into a gag with the fandom.
- OHOHOHO STOPS ExplanationAn image depicting Frieza's face along with that phrase as closed captions when he realizes Top's ball of Destruction Energy is not nearly as "weak" as the one from the leader of Universe 9's assassins.
- "Contestant Hit of the 11th universe is eliminated." ExplanationA most unfortunate error from the Funimation dub airing of Episode 111 where Hit, who just got eliminated by Jiren, was referred to as hailing from Universe 11 instead of the correct 6 by the Grand Minister. The gaffe caught on like wildfire on social media to the point of becoming a Google autocomplete result within a day. Since Jiren hails from Universe 11, that may be where the error stems from, which also led to jokes that Jiren just betrayed his own universe.
- "Fuck them dragons" ExplanationThe English dub took some liberties with Jiren's trust in his own strength, saying "I trust no one, not even dragons". This lead to fans joking how Jiren absolutely hates dragons and wants to fight them.
- "I'll ignore that." ExplanationWhen confronted by Katopesla, Frieza is egged on to try and follow him. Frieza just turns around, choosing not to and saying this quote. Often used to display ignorance or as a Take That! to certain subjects. Sometimes even both.
- "Final Form my ass!" explanationFrost, Universe 6's version of Freeza, takes on several different forms like his counterpart. Deceitfully describing one of them as his final form results in Vegeta calling him out with this line in the English dub, which quickly caught on among fans as a sort of unofficial motto for the series considering the endless amounts of character transformations.
- "joder me revelo?/Damn, should I rebel?" ExplanationOne of the more widespread fan theories for Youtubers and 4chan users was that the Angels were planning a "rebellion" against Zeno due to Mojito's smirk after Universe 9 was erased, a theory that went from somewhat popular to widely mocked once the tournament went on. Similarly to the Hit clone meme, the Latin American community began to run with it and using screenshots from the fan animation Goku vs. Jiren real life style to depict the Grand Priest thinking about and then outright rebelling, the Zenos being thrilled he's rebelling and all the other characters reacting to the rebellion in different ways.
Granola Saga memes
- The "punching bag" form.ExplanationVegeta's new Ultra Ego form did give Vegeta a power boost, but it also gave the impression that Vegeta has to constantly take blows from his opponent to power up (which is implied as Vegeta having a gross misinterpretation of how Beerus' technique works), as well as having Vegeta forcibly trying to regress to his Saiyan Saga persona in order to make full use of the form (another misinterpretation of the form's workings at that). Not helped by the fact that all Vegeta got over the course of the arc is getting thrashed by Granolah, and then by Gas, while Goku managed to find more efficient ways to use Ultra Instinct and win.
- "Black" FriezaExplanation In Chapter 87, Frieza unveiled a new upgraded transformation called Black Frieza. Fans were quick to depict him sporting clothes typically worn by African-American people.
- “Frieza can now say the n-word.”Explanation Frieza's prejudice against the Saiyans and constant denigration of them as “monkeys” was already quite infamous; As such, people quickly came to the conclusion that Frieza would abuse his new form to engage in N-Word Privileges.
- Frieza gaining a substantial amount of power after a light workout ExplanationSome fans have regarded the Frieza’s new form as a total Ass Pull, given how it was handwaved as him spending 10 years in a Hyperbolic Time Chamber over ten days in-story. Combined with Frieza's great power increase in Resurrection of F from a mere 4 months of training, fans have mocked this by having Frieza easily outclass others around them by taking a light jog or stretch.
- Toyotaro pressed the "Five Minutes 'Til the End of the Arc" Button ExplanationThe circumstances under which Frieza appeared, showed off his new transformation and then left, are contrived enough that readers say he was put there so that he could wrap the whole arc after Toyotaro wrote himself into a corner.
Latin American Spanish dub
- "¡Vuela, pega y esquiva!" ("Fly, Hit and Dodge!")ExplanationThe refrain of the opening song in the Latin American Spanish dub (the dubbed version of "Chōzetsu Dynamic!"). It's as narmy as it sounds, and when the opening was revealed by Cartoon Network L.A., many YouTubers wasted no time in making fun of it.
- "Borra este video o cancelarán X." ("Take this video down or they'll cancel X." ExplanationIt started out as a reaction of people fearing the Latin American dub would be cancelled because people upload clips of it on YouTube, but people quickly began to make fun of this by replacing Super with another series in the comment.
- "Adrian Barba sang it better." ExplanationA reaction of Latin American fans who were displeased with the official dubs of the opening and ending themes of Super, and prefer the fandub by Adrian Barba, who sang the second opening and ending of Z. Some fans jokingly took it to escalate it into saying that Adrian Barba could have done anything in Super better.
Crossovers
Dragon Ball Super X Fortnite
- Goku interacting with the other crossover characters in Fortnite quickly caught on just for the sheer absurdity of the event
- Goku and crew hitting the Griddy ExplanationFor similar reasons, Goku doing goofy Fortnite dances also caught on. Similar instances were later made with Bulma, Beerus, Vegeta, Goku Black, Piccolo, Gohan, Frieza, Cell, Future Trunks, Androids 17 and 18.
- Goku with a gun ExplanationOnce again, the absurd contrast of such a powerful character like Goku running around shooting people with a gun proved to be prime meme material, which became even funnier upon Android 17 (who has a gun of his own in a gun holster) getting in.
- “They nerfed Bulma”ExplanationShortly after the DLC dropped, people quickly noticed that Bulma's infamously prominent posterior had been toned down for whatever reason (in addition to her breasts which were also shrunk down), to the point that Vegeta was more caked up than she was. It got even more funnier years later when Android 18 got in and her hips weren't changed at all, making her just as caked as Vegeta.
- "Monkeys!" ExplanationFans had a field day when the Big Bad of the series Frieza finally joined the game in December with the first noticeable being a gif of Goku being surrounded by crowd of people wearing Frieza's skin.
- "Cell joined the game so he can hunt for the Androids/Slam Dunk Cell" ExplanationIn addition to Frieza joining the game, the Big Bad of the Cell Saga, Cell also joined the game as well as part of a bundle with the former. With jokes of him only joining the game to find Androids 17 and 18 or hunting for an Android phone, the fact that he even comes with his Perfect form, implies he absorbed them off-screen. Which becomes even funnier with Android 17 and 18 joining the game. Another meme that's also carried over into Fortnite is Cell playing basketball due to the game having several basketball themed emotes available, most notably the NBA Slam Dunk emote.
- "The MVP is here!" ExplanationUpon the reveal of the ever-so popular Android 18 and Future Trunks as playable skins, fans immediately went wild over the surprise announcement of Android 17 getting into the game, when most fans had him written off with many rightfully calling 17 the MVP upon him getting in. Making it funnier was that 17 was revealed alongside 18, with Future Trunks being revealed afterwards.
Zamasu: The internet is beautiful! But the ugliness of memes soils that beauty.
