Thavius Beck is an electronic musician/producer as well as an m.c. and saxophone/bass player who currently resides in Los Angeles. Born in Minneapolis, MN, Thavius came to LA in 1996 at 16 years of age, and eventually met up with the other members of what became Global Phlowtations, a unique and influential group in LA underground hip-hop. The group released 3 albums independently ('Phlowatation Devices', '98 Unheard', and 'The Nucleus'), and each one heavily featured Thavius' production (who was known at the time as Adlib), as well as his occasional vocals. Aside from producing for the various members of the 10 man (and one woman) group, Adlib released numerous solo projects as CD-R's. The first was actually a tape called "VS.", a self-produced concept ep with one verse songs released in 1998.

Adlib eventually left Global Phlowtations around 2000 to focus more on his solo career, and released no less than 9 different projects between '98 and 2003. While working at Amoeba Records in LA, he hooked up with Subtitle and remixed a song for his ep, "I'm Always Recovering From Tomorrow", which led to them touring togeher with The Mars Volta and Radio Vago. It was around this time (2003) that Thavius Beck signed with Mush Records (essentially killing off his 'Adlib' moniker) , and released 'Decomposition', another concept album about death and decay. This album was partly inspired by his admiration for Jeremy Ward, the sound manipulator for The Mars Volta, who passed away a couple days after we all got back from the aforementioned tour. This brought about the collaboration between Thavius and Cedric Bixler-Zavala, lead singer for The Mars Volta on the song "Amongst the Shadows", written in Jeremy's memory.

Thavius later collaborated with Saul Williams on Saul's self titled album, producing a song called, "Act 3 Scene 2" featuring Zach De La Rocha. This releationship with Saul led to Thavius touring with him in October of 2004, playing bass and samplers in his live band. After a month long tour, the band became just Saul and Thavius using an MPC 1000, and they toured the US, the UK, and Europe several times throughout 2005. During all of this, a special project that Thavius and Subtitle had been working on was released in January 2005 under the group name Labwaste. The album "Zwarte Achtegrond" (dutch for 'black background', an inside joke on many levels) received great reviews in Spin and URB magazine, and was regarded by many as the best thing either one of them had done up to that point.

In September of 2005, Thavius stopped touring with Saul to focus on family and future projects. He has since released "THRU" (Mush Records) in 2006, produced tracks for Saul Williams' upcoming album (to be released early 2008, executive producer Trent Reznor), remixed the Nine Inch Nails single Survivalism (with Saul Williams), produced tracks for Busdriver, Subtitle, and up and coming mc NoCanDo, had music licensed for 'The Suicide Girls DVD', and released a free ep titled 'Give Us Free' on a french label/website called HipHopCore.net. His current myspace.com page reads:

"Tossed asunder from the ice cold heart of Minneapolis, a young man with an old beard stepped off of a greyhound onto Los Angeles soil. This was the beginning of the middle for Thavius Beck, a saxophonist/bassist with a sampler, who later morphed into the beatmaking behemoth that sits before your monitor. 11 years, 2 groups, and 12 solo records later (not to mention group releases from Global Phlowtations and Labwaste, as well as production for Saul Williams, Busdriver, Subtitle, a couple film scores, a Miller beer commercial, a mysterious remix with Nas, and music placement in the Suicide Girls DVD), he's still not rich. But his passport has alot of stamps, and he can say from experience that Oslo is amazing in August. Current projects include: 'THRU' released on Mush Records, 'Give Us Free' ep for HipHopCore.net, working with Trent Reznor and CX Kidtronik on production for Saul Williams new album, co-producing the remix to "Survivalism" (by Nine Inch Nails) with Saul Williams, working on various projects with double violin virtuoso and contributor to "The Passion of the Christ" soundtrack Gingger Shankar, as well as other esoteric musical endeavors. Thanks in advance..."
