AQUA KNIGHT, VOL. 1
GRAPHIC NOVEL
San Francisco, CA (5/29/01)—Viz Comics is pleased to announce the August 2001 graphic novel release of Aqua Knight, Vol. 1, the latest manga series by acclaimed artist/storyteller Yukito Kishiro!
Enter a whole new world of fantasy and adventure: the watery land of Marmundo, where kings rule tiny islands scattered throughout the vast sea and stray ships really can fall off the face of the planet! To protect this land from evil, great armored Aqua Knights patrol the seas mounted atop noble Orcas seeking adventure and combat. One such Aqua Knight, Ruliya of Perla, washes ashore on a mysterious lighthouse island after being caught in a storm. Little does she know that this tiny island would be the beginning of an adventure that would take her to the far edges of the world and beyond!
In This Volume: On the remote island of Faro, not far form the World's Edge, a stormy night brings a visitor to the lighthouse keeper Arrabarus and his young son Ashika. When they find a suit of armor washed up near the shore, they open it to find a beautiful woman who happens to be questing Aqua Knight Ruliya of Perla, far off her intended course. For saving her life, Ruliya grants young Ashika the privilege of being her squire—a mistake she would come to regret. But when the megalomaniacal genius Alcantara steals a magical light sphere from Faro and kidnaps Ashika, Ruliya has no time to lament the past, she must set off to rescue the boy and maintain the delicate balance between the living and the dead.

When best friends Miaka and Yui open an ancient Chinese book, they find themselves transported inside the story by some mysterious force! Trapped in the Universe of the Four Gods, a parallel world strangely like ancient China, Miaka is at a loss (no fast food?) until she is identified as a prophesized priestess from another world. But for both girls, the journey has just begun. As the priestess of legend, Miaka must travel the land searching out the seven Celestial Warriors—dashing mercenary Tamahome, emperor Hotohori, petulant would-be empress Nuriko, and others—to summon the power of Suzaku, fulfill her wish, and find true love.
In This Volume: Miaka's search for the last celestial warrior brings her and her escorts back to Tamahome's home village. After healing Tamahome's father of illness, an agent of Qu-Dong attacks Miaka, but a flute-playing warrior comes to her aid—the seventh warrior of Suzaku, Chiriko! With all the celestial warriors accounted for, Miaka heads back to Hong-Nan to plan Tamahome's return. But Yui, jealous of Miaka and love struck for Tamahome, doesn't want to give up the warrior without a fight. When Miaka travels to the appointed meeting spot to take Tamahome back to Hong-Nan, all she finds is a group of soldiers waiting for her with Yui in command! Has Tamahome sold out Miaka?

Akira Toriyama's style is one that's immediately identifiable, even among a sea of other manga artists—no one does it quite the same. Toriyama traces his origins as an artist to his elementary school days, watching Astro Boy and winning a contest with a drawing of 101 Dalmatians. Before creating Dragon Ball, Toriyama was known for his manga Dr. Slump, a story of a robot girl and her antics with her inventor's family. Toriyama lives in Tokyo, Japan.
Dragon Ball, Vol. 6 is written and drawn by Akira Toriyama. It is 192 pages long, squarebound and retails for $12.95 in the USA and $20.00 in Canada.
