(Universum Film)

Defending four stars will be difficult, and I don't like challenges, so I'm going for it. It's not really a hit parade. It's a bit of an overcooked revenge-story, with plot twists that ultimately kind of annoyed me.. however...there's Margot Robbie, who enjoys a double dose (spoiler?) of Harley Quinn to the fullest, and these roles just suit her perfectly. And since I'm also a big fan of Simon Pegg, I couldn't really complain. But I'm still curious about who and why actually led to making this film. Several times while watching, I thought about the wasted ambitions of this year's Mute, and it feels the same here. Blade-Runneresque cyberpunk is beautifully replaced by a stunning purple noir look, and visually, it's a great spectacle (similarly to Refn's Only God forgives). However, a punchline is noticeably missing, and a month after the film, not even a dog will bark. Although I probably won't bark either, I quite enjoyed this one-bit 90-minute movie. ()
The cast made me a little hesitant, actually I didn't even know properly what I was getting into. What I can say with certainty is that this film has a certain style that may not appeal to everyone and could come across as more theatrical to some viewers. I was a little bothered by the frequent intertwining of storylines, quite often I was confused about the plot and didn't know what to think. In the end, it was resolved quite well and Margot carried the whole runtime essentially on her shoulders. I won't give more than three stars because it felt somewhat superficial and silly. But it wasn't a bad experience, although my attitude towards “Terminal” is rather neutral. ()
