If I ever need to look for a prototype of extremely boring, uneventful, cheap non-working ghost stories with a poorly unsympathetic cast, I know where to look now. The Turning offers this from beginning to end. Essentially, you can put it on when you maybe need something to fall asleep to, because not much really happens here and if it does, it is by today's standards, when the 21st century offers a vast amount of possibilities in horror cinema, an absolute disgrace. The dreary pseudo-efficient ending really didn't add many positive points to it.

Mackenzie Davis spends most of the movie staring into the darkness like she’s lost her mind. The Turning could have been a decent horror flick if it didn’t have such a ridiculous, nonsensical ending. Sure, the tension kept me hooked, even though the jump scares weren't that great, but what’s the point if the film just fizzles out with zero explanation?

Well crafted but with no feeling for the horror genre, and also with an extremely unsatisfactory climax. I would really love to know how could someone think that we could be interested in a new version of the Turning of the Screw in this form.
