Englisch To the Night is an emotionally intense film that's light on plot but heavy on psychological drama. It's more of a deep dive into the minds of people at their breaking points. Norman battles his inner demons, scarred by a brutal childhood trauma. Despite being surrounded by loved ones, he can't escape his mental anguish, spiraling into the darkest corners of his mind. The standout feature of this film is Caleb Landry Jones's phenomenal performance. He delivers a raw, destructive portrayal, pushing his acting limits to the extreme. Jones, who has shown his immense talent in previous supporting roles, grabs this lead role with both hands and makes the most of it. Unfortunately, while Jones's performance is unforgettable, the film itself might not leave a lasting impression. It's his acting that will be remembered, rather than the movie as a whole. ()

Englisch I don't like doing this, especially since Caleb is my favorite actor, it won't be easy for me to write about this film. It was an anachronistic and very difficult-to-digest drama about a past battle that is transferred to a person forever, not only very poorly directed but also chaotic with lots of WTF scenes. One would think that Caleb finally has the opportunity to show what he's made of in a leading role, unfortunately, despite his perhaps excessive efforts, his talent was poorly supported by a badly written script which, at the moment it should peak, starts to plummet to the very bottom, leaving the audience totally baffled. As a reward for enduring very shrill dialogues and performances from almost unknown and mostly unsympathetic actors, the viewer is left with several question marks. It's a huge shame that Caleb's almost physically uncomfortable, under-the-skin performance was almost for nothing this time. KVIFF 2018 ()
