A theatre, opera and film director, Tom Volf directed his first movie in 2017, Maria by Callas, which competed in the documentary section of the Chicago Festival. He later published the books Maria by Callas, Callas Confidential and Maria Callas, Letters & Memoirs. He himself adapted the latter for a theatre show starring Monica Bellucci, in turn adapted to the big screen with the same title and with the Italian actress once again portraying Callas in this film, shown at Rome Festival.
