Dave is a very, very nice film with aesthetically pleasing characters, a perfect balance of romance and humor and, of course, excellent actors. Together with Ghostbusters, this is the peak of Ivan Reitman filmography. ()
A textbook example of smart humour and mild political satire with an unprecedented constellation of properly used actors in an unrealistic but fully effective and smart story from the behind the scenes of high politics and corruption. The sleazy and sly Frank Langella against the traditionally perfect Kevin Kline, together with a carefully built romance and a strong climax result in an incredibly pleasant experience without any major weak spots (maybe only the part right before the climax grinds a little under the weight of the accumulated conflicts). The final farewell with the head of security Ving Rhames brought a little swell of tears. 85% and the fifth star is purely subjective. ()
